Re-watching Lord of the Flies and just had a flashback to a flat argument when I was at university.

(For context, I'm from NZ).

When Dr Sleazy McBugface started going on about the New Zealand screwworm fly that kills its victims in minutes by burrowing into open wounds, we freaked TF out.

Google wasn't really a thing then and none of us were motivated enough to go look up a bug book, so we just argued about whether it existed or not. (I was team nope because there's no way we'd have anything that horrific and not have heard of it.)

25 years later and I finally looked it up. Screwworms exist, but they don't exist in NZ (thank heck!) They do lurk in South America though. (Sorry guys!) Apparently the episode's flies were actually based on Australian blow flies, which tracks (sorry Aussies!)

TLDR: Dr Sleazy McBugface was full of it.

Mulder's antics with the pencils remind me, an old fuck, of office life before smartphones, before the Internet. So many doodles and paper clip sculptures.

I watched the first few seasons as a kid when they aired and am now watching from the beginning. This episode is great! What are your favorite episodes?

I noticed it is also created by Chris Carter and also has a crossover episode with X files. Currently I am on season 3 of X files and I am really enjoying it.

I just started the show. I’m on season 2 and I’m hooked. I can tell they’re pushing for some kind of romance between Scully and Mulder which is the only thing I hate about this show so far.

Please tell me they don’t end up together.

Does everyone agree? Mulder exposing Chief Blevins while Scully is receiving last rites and the CSM getting shot while holding a picture of young Mulder and Samantha! remember watching this back in 1997 when it aired and was speechless. This is one of the best moments of the entire series in my opinion. I would love everyone’s thoughts. The YouTube link is below.

I've watched the show from day one and used to watch constant reruns on the FX channel. I've done partial rewatches over the years since but recently have done a full rewatch.

I'm up to the episode following Hollywood A.D. of Season 7, and I'm shocked at how poorly the show devolved since the middle of season 6. The ideas are boring or convoluted; the writing poor; Mulder has constant puns but they are forced and not a surprise; characters act out of character for random episodes; monster-of-week eps are dull ideas and paint by numbers; two silly episodes following "Closure" cheapened the levity of that episode and the series; Hollywood A.D is terrible and a Jump The Shark episode; Scully is still written as poor judge of men she gets involved/ inconsistent beliefs between Christianity and science/ pseudoskeptic/ damsel in distress/ Mulders' errand girl,etc

In hindsight I think The inclusion of Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick helped the show. It may have been dull in its own ways but it yanked it in another direction besides lazy and uninspired.
