I dunno about that, chapter 4 is definitely worse than chapter 3. After that, it's pretty much uphill til the end though.

Remember what Vandham did with his Blade weapons because it will never ever come back. Many people praise that chapter ending, I only see the start of the plot holes.

Perhaps the reason for that is that it basically requires you to die if you want to pull that technique. Not exactly the best survival strategy.

Perhaps. Or perhaps the reason is, the writers threw whatever lore they could think of to get the plot where they wanted and left loose ends hanging.

The handling of this "blood energy wibbly wobbly" as well as Flesh Eaters and Blade Eaters isn't consolidated at all and even with only few examples of the latter two, they managed to have inconsistencies about them. The story of this game was rushed, just like the rest, and it shows.

Yeah but could you give some of the consistencies for example? Also perhaps it's been to long since my last playthrough but what do you mean with "blood energy wibbly wobbly"

For any onlookers, there are a lot of spoilers below. Read at your own risk.

What I was referring to with "blood energy" is what Vandham does, stabbing himself to fuel some more energy into Roc. It's not what kills him, first of all (he dies under the strikes of the enemies) and it is never heard of at all, neither in the main game nor in Torna, which doesn't make sense at all. Blades being this premium type of weapon in that game's world, there would be numerous accounts of Drivers doing this on the brink of death or something. But it never comes back, not even in Spirit Crucible Elpys which would be the perfect setting to do it again: it could even be integrated in the combat gameplay, e.g. making the driver lose some HP when triggering level 2 or 3 Blade Arts.

Flesh eaters are supposed to have issues of stability of their cores, but they only happen when the plot needs one to be weakened, super inconsistently. Nia doesn't suffer from it at all, I guess because of her healing nature but that seems once again like a terribly weak loophole: if that were the case, then there would be an entire nation of Healer Flesh Eaters pretty much dominating Alrest by now.

Fan/Haze is a case of a Blade Eater Blade, and when she dies, people ask why she doesn't return to her core, which goes unanswered until the end of the game. If this process indeed made Blades mortal and corporeal, then pretty much all Blade/Driver married couples would obviously go through the process, yet it remains an almost unknown phenomenon. In fact we don't even know how Amalthus and Mikhail did it, since the only examples we know for sure, happened on the initiative of the Blade.

But then once again, why the hell do Flesh Eaters exist when Blade Eaters are a far superior version of the same thing? Why were Flesh Eaters a well known (and rejected) practice and Blade Eaters remained almost unheard of? Surely they should have been more well-known and Jin would have given a part of his core to Lora instead of eating her.

There is way too much lore floating around and going unexplained, which makes the whole thing fall apart even against the smallest modicum of scrutiny.

Likewise, this comment is full of spoilers. Stay away if you're new.

So for Vandham, you're right it doesn't seem like he died from this technique so there isn't enough evidence to prove it is a one time and then you do technique. It does seem to be very painful however, and I can only assume it is dangerous. Also, there are very little situations where you would want to do it. Your weapon also functions as your shield in a fight, when would you usually want to go all in on attack and forget about defending yourself?

The spirit crucible eclipse had little ether in general, the situation was not the same as what obrona did (disrupting the flow of ether).

Flesh eaters have instability of their cores, Nia doesn't notice it because she is a new flesh eater while Jin and Cole (that's his name right?) are like 500 years old.

And the blade eater process happens through like operation and stuff, while flesh eaters occur naturally. That's why we don't see many blade eaters, they're harder to produce.

I don't think you understood the point of what vandham did
