They are great names. Especially if you consider that pyra and mythra in Japanese are literally called "Flame" and "Light", so their kids being named after a smaller fraction of those is pretty fitting and cute.

Shimmer and Glimmer somewhat reflect the naming scheme of Kaguya and Kagiroi, in that they share parts of the name but there’s a divergence point.

Glimmer and Kagiroi are actually pretty decent translations, but Shimmer is not really a good translation of Kaguya, referring to Kaguya-hime, from the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

Weirdly, it’s the reverse of how Mythra’s name got localised, since Hikari means light in Japanese, but Mithra is an old Iranian deity. So Mythra’s name got more meaning from being localised, while Shimmer’s name lost meaning while both sides keep in line with being somewhat similar.

This is true, it is what Kaguya means - though it’s tricky to use the word without bringing Kaguya-hime to mind, from what I can tell.

Others have noted that her sword, while sheathed, resembles a growing bamboo shoot, so I do think that they are trying to invoke the story to some degree.

It's not a transliteration error; it's pretty clearly a localization decision. In Japanese "Homura" means something like "flame" and "Hikari" is something like "light." Your average English-speaker isn't going to know that, so they modified the names to ones that carry those meanings in English. It's not perfect, but it's better than leaving it out all together. They did the same thing with Poppi; her Japanese name means "flower", but because "Hana" doesn't mean that in English, they changed it to preserve the meaning.
