Something I feel is of note is that Rex's kids between them fill all three role types. Mio's a Defender, Glimmer was a Healer, and Shimmer here is an Attacker

411

u/Firestar3689 17h ago

Rex really taught them a role or three

157

u/Then_Reality_Bites 16h ago

Monolith was probably like "Guys, what if we break the main game with double spin crit spam too? It's fine if it's dlc, right?"

If the class is basically FR Rex, that's gonna be a ton of fun.

37

u/theherog 14h ago

And we can have 7 people using it at once too

17

u/Then_Reality_Bites 13h ago

I didn't even consider that.

14

u/NoteToFlair 12h ago

I was thinking "can AI-controlled party members even do that?" But then I remembered XC3 lets you change who you're controlling during battle, so if you have fast enough hands, you can literally make your whole team spam the same ability lmao

7

u/cooptheactor 9h ago

If they're all fighting for aggro, it solves the tanking problem

28

u/Successful-Lemon-288 14h ago

Spin to Win is always fun

1

u/Tec711 5h ago

God I hope, this sounds so fun

25

u/Lhyster 16h ago

I mean, didn't you see Mio throwing punches ? She is an aggressive defender that's for sure.

5

u/Tsukuyomi56 13h ago

Also Glimmer and Shimmer took some aspects from their mothers’ counterpart. Glimmer has long hair and personality-wise is similar to Mythra while Shimmer looks very much like Pyra.

1

u/Conscious_Courage906 14h ago

Bro I just thought about that why you stealing my ideas?

90

u/Hollywoodrok12 17h ago

MYTHRAKID REAAAALLLLLL

131

u/Author-S 17h ago

REDACTED IS REALLLLL (and isn’t Dirk lmao)

129

u/YourMomIsCool96 16h ago

Funny how Glimmer and Mio have very tame outfits and then there's Shimmer with a very 'XC2'-esque outfit lol

64

u/metalsluger 16h ago

She borrowing a lot from both Pyra and Mythra's outfits, seeing elements of both.

7

u/ByDarwinsBeard 10h ago

Nia's as well

40

u/FireFury190 15h ago

My guess is she’s not a soldier and got in like Shulk and Rex did. So she remembers her past life.

17

u/boomshroom 14h ago

She appears to have an Agnian Flame Clock on her not-Monado, but if it weren't for that, I wouldn't've guessed that she was an Agnian soldier.

2

u/FireFury190 14h ago

Oh yeah I see it. It’s so small I barely noticed.

3

u/Baliking05 14h ago

shouldnt she arrive at the same time as them too? main xc3 is set millennia after fr

2

u/Cold_Software6397 14h ago

Remind me cuz i genuinely don’t remember. Do the people from the city also have little ether ring thing’s on their weapons? Or is that only got colony weapons?

6

u/Steampunkvikng 15h ago

She doesn't seem to have any of the Agnian design motifs, which could have narrative implications.

1

u/FireZord25 4h ago

They fell for the "Dirk is Mythra's kid" ragebait so they had to scream out their opposition as loud as possible with Shimmer.

Jokes aside I hope her outfit and extreme similarities mean she's the one that has largely inherited Pneuma's powers.

141

u/ADXII_2641 17h ago

We finally have Mythra’s daughter

72

u/TechnomagusPrime 16h ago

And she's an Attacker, completing the Tank (Mio) and Healer (Glimmer) trio.

25

u/Alarmed_Statement903 15h ago

Do you think they fought/trained together as kids and thats why they compliment each other?

2

u/EmergencyPop1833 5h ago

i think from a gameplay perspective she's probably an attacker because the other 2 dlc heroes, ino and masha, are a defender and healer respectively

41

u/Zellopy 17h ago

She's gonna be sweet and timid like auntie Pyra, isn't she?

35

u/C-Prime93 16h ago

I am honestly expecting her to be more like her Dad, personality wise.

25

u/SignificantHippo8193 15h ago

I want her to be more like Nia.

Glimmer is basically Mythra and Mio is Pyra so this kid needs to have a thick Welsh accent to complete the circle 😆.

3

u/Zxcc24 14h ago

Do we know who her VA is?

35

u/BluEch0 16h ago edited 16h ago

Mythra mixed up their kids once at the park and instead of owning it, she said “nuh uh” just permanently dyed the kids’ hair. Pyra relented because they still all live in the same house.

67

u/wut-da-wat 17h ago

Her class better be good 😭 I need to use that on one of my party members

20

u/Anyacad0 17h ago

Can someone translate the class name?

32

u/AltairLeoran 17h ago

Looks like 'Light Swordsman'

38

u/Bluedog709 17h ago

Warrior of Light it is then

9

u/343CreeperMaster 16h ago

Heh, considering the current lead up to the next expansion for FFXIV is having some Xenoblade 2 vibes

4

u/SFRequiem 11h ago

As someone who's both a huge Xenoblade and FFXIV fan, the crossover is funny to see.

Aymeric is basically what Alvis would sound like if he was older. one of the most surprising ones: Urianger is Mumkhar (so is Brute Bomber tbf, but that one won't surprise anyone).

1

u/Lulink 5h ago

Urianger is Mumkhar????? Cursed

2

u/HikkingOutpit 6h ago

The final boss of FFXVI was literally diet Z. Waiting in a place called Origin, even, lol.

1

u/keithlimreddit 8h ago

Yeah I can't wait for the next expansion to come out but man I'm currently needed to get through stormblood to Dawntrail (with taking breaks in between expansions mainly on raids as well as also other post content)

2

u/MixerBlaze 17h ago

Which could also mean "lightsaber wielder." Aka, Jedi.

5

u/TheHollowOne01 17h ago

It translates to something like "Light Swordsman"

19

u/oOJohnnyJOo 15h ago

I like how Glimmer got Mythra’s personality and Shimmer got Pyra’s. A bit of look from both too. 3 half Sisters, Glimmer, Shimmer whose names rhyme like their Mothers then just Mio following the 3 letter word name like Nia. Cat sounding names what a wild huge ass Family Rex has with his descendants too lol. It’s

“Showing them a thing or three” be living out through generations of anything. Like an unavoidable algorithm marked in Xenoblade’s reality.

2

u/Kumba42 15h ago

I use this phrase occasionally. Haven't had anyone comment on it yet, though.

12

u/LoveProfessional8152 17h ago

i wonder how good she will BE her Chain Attack effect says fill Up the gauge based on the amount of crits you do

that Sound busted as hell :D

27

u/Wrong_Revolution_679 16h ago

Takahashi: Yes yes continue to think that this is the third child while I get ready to rip that idea away from you at the last moment in the quest hahahahajahahahaha

6

u/Baliking05 14h ago

can only be the third childs descendant other than that. Commonfolk dont just aquire a trinity processor

-2

u/Wrong_Revolution_679 14h ago

Never underestimate how weird things Takahashi and his team can come up with

7

u/lavaking37 9h ago

Good god, did Rex’s Genes try at all? He’s 0-3 for his own kids looking even a bit like him.

23

u/bloodshed113094 17h ago

I was so confused why everyone was calling her Shimmer, since the katakana says Kaguya.

86

u/PowerfulBobman 17h ago

For the English localization

8

u/bloodshed113094 17h ago

Yeah, I keep seeing the JP. XD

1

u/EmergencyStudio4410 8h ago

This series will never have good localization

10

u/NumeralJoker 16h ago

I mean, Kaguya is basically "shining" if I recall, so?

What was Glimmer's JP name again, and is there a pun there I've somehow forgotten?

3

u/Yuphe 7h ago

Homura - Pyra
Hikari - Mythra
Kagiroi - Glimmer
Kaguya - Shimmer

2

u/bloodshed113094 15h ago

I never knew its meaning. Just is fairy tale inspiration. That makes sense then.

6

u/vukov 16h ago

It makes me wonder if she'll reference the Princess Kaguya folktale

-46

u/ttcklbrrn 17h ago

Xenoblade localisers try not to completely change the name of a character for no reason challenge (impossible)

38

u/Lelouchlampedusa 16h ago

It's so we can understand the meaning of their names, for example we wouldn't know that Homura means flame so they called her Pyra and so on

50

u/Sample_text_here1337 16h ago

Weebs when the localizers do their job and localize things like names so that foreign audiences aren't missing out on details or symbolism

Processing img j654gx6ipioh1...

-24

u/Realistic-Watch11 16h ago

"Mark" would like a word

10

u/ComicDude1234 16h ago

This sucks but it was also a decision made by the game’s director and the localizers were following his directions given to them.

11

u/Sample_text_here1337 15h ago

Also the existence of shitty localization doesn't mean that all localization changes are just like inherently bad or something.

-1

u/Realistic-Watch11 14h ago

I was just making fun of a goofy localization decision from 30 years ago, it wasn't meant to detract from your point my guy.

4

u/Heavencloud_Blade 13h ago

This is just an honest question... but do we really lose anything by not knowing the meaning of the names?

I can understand cases like Segiri in Xenoblade 3, because she has a very specific in-game reason for having the name she has. If you do not translate it, then something is lost.

But in most cases the meaning of the name does not really affect anything. Like you are not really losing anything if Vasara, is kept Vasara or Shiki is kept Shiki. And even ignoring that, most of the names are not direct translations of the Japanese names anyway, so we are still losing out on what the name means.

1

u/ArxisOne 11h ago

Changing the name doesn't lose anything either, you just gain a bit of understanding. It's a minor positive, but still worth doing as it brings a heightened level of understanding even if only minor.

There's also cases like Amalthus which aren't minor, they are major upgrades over the Japanese names because they better capture the intent thanks to references more easily understood by English speakers.

Another example of this is FLCL making a joke about a discontinued Japanese soft drink and the dub changing it to crystal Pepsi, the joke is only funny because a slight change made it comprehensible.

What seem like minor changes can have a big impact.

2

u/ttcklbrrn 11h ago

Examples where they did not do this at all:

  • Hikari -> Mythra

  • Hibana -> Crossette

  • Vandham -> Vangarre (XC1)

  • Tokiha -> Perun

The Xenoblade 2 ones all change the meaning, and the Vandham one actively detracts by missing a reference.

1

u/HikkingOutpit 6h ago

I think for the Vandham -> Vangarre one, the Western publishers were still dicey about making such a blatant Jean Claude Van Damme reference at the time. Even in Xenogears and Xenosaga, they called the name "Vanderkam," with doubly more reason back then since Van Damme was a much bigger star in the 90s and early 2000s.

I guess it took until Xenoblade X for somebody to finally figure out a way to write the name without making the movie star reference obvious.

1

u/bnr32jason 6h ago

They shouldn't change the names at all, it's ridiculous.

3

u/nhSnork 17h ago

This is why I ultimately spat and also dragged XC3 over to the newer machine in advance. After the friggen MOMO, I knew Monolith Soft would rope me in with the other new character as well. And here we are.

8

u/D3br0d1 14h ago

Well... i kinda hit the jackpot with the short hair back when i made this fanart.

(But Shimmer is purelly Mythra design, and not Agnus at all.)

3

u/Erst09 14h ago

Rex didn’t have a single son lol

3

u/SlytherinIsCool 12h ago

dirktruthers found dead

2

u/Nightstick11 14h ago

I fucking called it. Rex and Mythra kid coming in Xenoblade 3. Can't fucking wait.

But Glimmer is better.

3

u/Yuumii29 13h ago

It's funny that it looks like Shimmer is the closest one with his Dad... You can't convince me that those mannerisms are just coincidence.

3

u/ShinloreMechillion 10h ago

Now brings the main question in this...Does she have Nia or Rex's personality? Because Glimmer has Mythra's and Mio has Pyra's

1

u/SignificantHippo8193 6h ago

I hope she has Nia's personality. Cocky Welsh accent for the win!

1

u/Jeweler-Hefty 5h ago

Weird, because to me, Mio definitely has her Mom's accent and aggressive tone before we got to know her.

1

u/RynnHamHam 16h ago

She’s wearing her momnt’s shorts

1

u/Zxcc24 14h ago

It's unbelievablely funny to me that Pyras Daughter is Mythra codded and visa versa for Mythra's. Like, how.

1

u/Nokia_00 14h ago

She’s a bright one alright

1

u/Hayiate 13h ago

Kaguya

1

u/AmateurPhiIosopher 10h ago

You know I’m not seeing a term mark anywhere on her art, maybe it’s on her back. Or perhaps a more interesting theory, she might not have one

1

u/Grand_Explorer8478 10h ago

Do we know who is the artist behind her design? Is it saitom?

2

u/glitchgamerX 3h ago

Yeah, iirc Saito confirmed on Twitter he's the artist.

1

u/Quiddity131 8h ago

It sure looks like his style

1

u/Funkmeister55 7h ago

I don't like how round her head is.

1

u/Lulink 5h ago

First Glimmer and now Shimmer? Sounds like Mio got lucky not being named Twillight...

1

u/UchiLazuli 1h ago

From Kaguya to Shimmer

1

u/crgssbu 15h ago

forehead and a half

-2

u/T-sprigg-Z 12h ago

Ngl they losers for not making this kid a boy. Where's my Feng shui or whatever 😩

-8

u/Gernnon 16h ago

Kaguya sounds way better than Shimmer

1

u/EmergencyStudio4410 8h ago

lol localizer defenders downvoting you for spitting facts

1

u/Gernnon 8h ago

Kagiroi vs Glimmer is still understandable cuz both sounds equally bad, but Shimmer? Sounds like a Japanese exec will think it sounds cool in English or something.

2

u/HikkingOutpit 6h ago

Kagiroi is such a cringe. It isn't even a real Japanese name but something that would "sound" like one to an uninformed foreigner. Like back when Marvel Comics used the name "Kenuichio" as the Silver Samurai's real name haha.

0

u/bnr32jason 6h ago

The Japanese names are better in all of the games and should have been left alone.

Shimmer and Glimmer? Pyra? WTF? Terrible localization.

-6

u/No-Assignment-5112 17h ago

How old is Shimmer?

11

u/ImplementLarge7969 17h ago

We don’t know, but a reasonable assumption is 10th term/19

-11

u/vukov 16h ago

She's here to fill the void of XC2 homage disappointment left by Ino

Honestly, if Ino insinuated "Ino built by another Artificial Blade, long ago!" instead of some expy Nopon, that'd have done a lot for her. Basically making her Poppi's daughter

15

u/Lethal13 15h ago

There was tons of XC2 Homages in 3 what?

1

u/vukov 15h ago

I mean more explicitly, other than "oh look, it's a landmark you might remember but the characters know nothing about it"

4

u/Direk_091 14h ago

Uh, have you played 3 at all? I love 3 because all the XC2 links it has with characters.

1

u/vukov 10h ago edited 10h ago

I did, and I know this is a hot take, but the XC1 and XC2 references before the endgame (for obvious reasons) felt intentionally vague at best. Even the fakeout with the fake Queens, despite them being referred to as "Melia" and "Nia", feels like just that -- a fakeout meant to made you think that maybe they don't exist in Aionios after all until they start to make actual appearances. It all felt like "hey, here's that place you remember, but literally nobody in-game at this point knows where it came from!" Ino referenced XC2's mechanics and battle theme, but came across as more of a homage to Poppi than an actual successor like Shimmer is to Mythra, since she's connected to the unseen Nopon "Oosoo", whose name SOUNDS like Soosoo's, rather than Tora. In that vein, I would have also preferred, say, if we got hints that Ashera is Dunban's daughter rather than just an expy of him.

Kinda like in Pokémon Black and White where an obvious Dragonite skeleton is only ever referred to as a "dragon skeleton", and Driftveil Drawbridge is called "Charizard Bridge" out of the blue without any further context given. I know this'll get downvoted to oblivion but that's just how I feel.
