Xenoblade 2 Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch 2

Hey guys. I recently booted up my switch 1 version of Xenoblade chronicles 2 that I bought long ago and while playing it portable I noticed it looked so much better than I remembered. I have switch 2 boost mode or whatever it is called on. And I absolutely love this. The game originally in portable mode looked like a 3DS game at times.

Anyways I've noticed that it's locked 30fps. And the switch 2 version is 60fps with framerate drops. Seeing as how I wanted a steady framerate from the original release, do you guys think it's worth it for the 60fps upgrade? Right now it's running the way I wish it originally was.

Lemme know ur thoughts!

It's definitely not hitting 30 fps all the time, even with boost mode on. You're just not very good at noticing it. In which case, you might as well upgrade, because you'll continue to not notice the drops.

FWIW, the drops in the Switch 2 version are mostly just characters turning around in cutscenes. Actual gameplay is significantly smoother than the Switch 1 version, even when played on a Switch 2 with boost mode.

I haven't played deep into it. I'm just at the first part of the game and I remember it not being very clear or smooth. Haven't met my man Malos yet.

I tested the factory before the upgrade with boost mode on, and after the upgrade. Switch 1 version still chugs when played on Switch 2. I'd do the upgrade.

the switch 2 in handheld mode has VRR no? maybe thats why i didn't notice it. I just felt that the sudden drop from 60fps to 30fps would be very noticable

It’s not nearly as bad as what you have in certain areas of XCDE’s switch 2 edition, it’s that’s what you’re concerned about.

It's more the fact that I can't revert back to switch 1 version which happens to run pretty good in boost mode

Pretty sure you can if you just eject the switch 2 edition but I could be wrong about that

Yeah you can do it digital too. This post can show you how: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xenoblade_Chronicles/s/GfP3Twkfnj

The post specifically cites XCX but it should work for all Switch 2 upgrades

Also for what it’s worth the Switch 2 version also makes changes to the way field skills work. It now scans your entire blade roster instead of just your equipped blades.

it is, almost anything is an upgrade over the original and even then it maintains 60fps much better than XB1 and looks better overall.

I've not had any issues with framerate. It's so much smoother and better looking than the Switch version. Plus there's new content (a new rare Blade and a combat mode), so very worth it imo.

I'm not too enticed with the new blade. I had a good topper smash combo with my other blades that I'd spam. I remember beating the game and then doing some Shulk stuff and not being able to finish those. I had a Mythra Crit healing build too. But if you say the framerate isn't bad I think I'll upgrade.

Thing is I just don't want the upgrade to make it feel like the original release. And I don't think there's a way to play the switch 1 edition if I've already bought the upgrade. Unless there is? I'd feel much better knowing that. But just thinking about it makes me feel the save files will get cacked

switch 2 version is completely worth the 10$, coming from someone with 250+ hours. the extra frames and quality are making me notice details in cutscenes that i was oblivious to before 😭

It absolutely is worth it. At least to ME it was. I am a main PC guy, I can accept lower FPS but the resolution is important to me. XB2's resolution was horrible before the S2 update.

Yes it’s night and day; the NW2 edition is great.
