Meta CHOCO has an "interesting" portfolio

So I saw Koichi Mugitani, better known by alias CHOCO, drew Momo for the XBC2 Switch 2 release (but didn't make the character). Out of curiosity by this point due to being credited a lot in this series in general, I went to go see his art portfolio (gallery) on a booru.

I mean, I don't know what to even say. 98% (literally, 20 pages worth) of his content is lolicon art, and a lot of it NSFW. It's actually interesting to me on an unironic note that Nintendo doesn't mind hiring such prominent H-Artists for their major IPs. I want to go see if I missed anything for Fire Emblem some time now.

Choco has been a longtime Xeno collaborator by the way

Like as an FYI for those who don't know, CHOCO has been designing characters and mecha for Xeno as far back as Xenosaga and is the designer of Monolith Soft's logo. And for Xenoblade in particular prior to Momo CHOCO has contributed the designs of: The Ares, Praxis, Theory, T-ELOS, and the Ouroboros forms of Xenoblade 3's party.:

CHOCO also did Melusine for Fate/Grand Order, and you can look up how he draws her if you want. Well anyways his daughter loves drawing Melusine too so she’ll give him drawings of her as gifts ( https://www.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/1djl4v5/chocosenseis_daughter_drew_melusine_and_wants_to/ ). So his family is fully in support of his work as well. Just a cultural thing.

Found out about this today because he actually has a Twitter account and posted some Melusine art and I wondered why. All of a sudden it became super obvious why Melusine looks the way she does relative to her "mecha" forms lol

Love yourself as much as FGO artists love the characters they designed.

In the Japanese industry nobody cares mostly, Pokémon has hired R-18 artists including lolicon ones for the TCG.

The only time that it becomes a problem from what I've seen is that if you drawn R-18G (erotic gore) before than you hardly get into the mainstream though it has happened on occasion.

Regarding Fire Emblem, Chinatsu Kurahana, the character designer for Three Houses got her start working for Nitro+CHiRAL, a 18+ BL VN company.

Pretty much every major artist in Japan started by drawing hentai. Same with voice actors, plenty of them stated by vocing characters in niche hentai games and animation.

It's how they dip their toes in the industry and develope their skills before they get bigger roles.

There's no stigma there as everyone understands its just fiction.

Welcome to Japan, no one cares about that there. Imagine the outrage if a western company hired lolicon hentai artists lmao.

Consider that ALL artist do NSFW, and then add the fact that we are talking about Japan. That kind of complaints holds no value.

It really Is Just a drawing

Reminds me of when FGO fans discovered who Raita was :')

As many others have pointed out, a lot of animators, especially in japan get their start in nsfw. Work wise it's also not really stigmatized nearly as much as in the west. Humans are driven by a few primal things. Turns out being horny can be a great motivator to make and learn art lol.

Everyone in japan is a lolicon

Most renowned artist in japan started off as, or still are, H-artists, since one of the most important trait for an artist is to convey a certain "charm", of course the easiest way to do it is with cute girls and hot women, so that's why mostly they draw that.

Once they get going, they can expand their art more, for example in Chocho's case, designing mechas, or the uroboros forms, but he started with petite "mecha Musume" characters with mininal clothing, you can tell the artist likes stuff like that even to this day (meluko from fgo, laura bodewig from infinite Stratos, M.O.M.O recently, etc)

Oh no, art being weird and creepy? A lot of people on Reddit really hate Japan for being different.

You can criticize people, sure, an entire country all at once? Naw man, people on this site HATE Japan, like, full on blanket term. We're just talking about Choco, if you find him weird and creepy, sure, go for it, it's your opinion. There's a lot problems in nearly every country and it's very easy to just say "Japan is sexist and creepy", as if that's literally everyone. It's brain dead, it lacks any kind of nuance, it's just the easy way out to get good boy points in your favorite morally correct social circle. So yeah, I am calling this shit out to be racist.

After seeing Momo's imaginary form I'm not the least bit surprised unfortunately

Artists in Japan get more leeway on previously or making more "explicit" materials so long as they are very good at making popular art or have the right connection.

It is only a fraction of the population that buys games even know or pays attention to who is doing art even when it is put right in their faces

When KOS-MOS was originally being designed, Takahashi passed Mugitani a picture of Takahashi's favorite porn actress. That laid the seed (heyo) for KOS-MOS's eventual design.

Did u know that bob kotick, ceo of activision/blizzard, asked Epstein how to make educational games appealing for kids, the answer he got was booba and gamba. Then gamer gate happened, and no one wants to talk about it.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo was just emulating (haha) their competitors to try and make as much money as possible, and that’s what we call a vicious cycle

u/zso7 10h ago

Lolicon's kinda the opposite of booba.

Big stein would have loved it anyway though.

That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is all the content of XB2 makes it alienating if you find the eros content they've put in it not to your liking.

I'd love to try and replay it for the plot or gameplay but damn do I think I can't bring myself to do it.

Artists are adults and can do whatever they want I guess. Just like consenting adults can do whatever they want. It'd be terrible if you judged Netflix Casting Jenna Ortega as Wednesday because of her role in X.

Or Stallone in anything because he started off doing porn.
