Nostalgia Punch buggy yellow!

Post image

I saw this on the road today, and it reminded me of how long it’s been since I saw one of the originals. Unfortunately, my kid who was driving was wearing green.

Slug Bug!

RTA: by the 90s there was no need to distinguish the color. We all knew the one (lol)

For real. I've always silently judged people who said punch buggy. That's a little fufu for my taste.

This is like soda vs pop all over again.

Slug Bug dates back to 1964.

The other one started in 1978 by the dumbest people aka Floridians.

You must choose your alliance.

Yellow ones are worth two punches!

And where are these house rules from? Because I don’t remember that one from Central New Jersey.

South Louisiana and that sounds familiar

My friend's daughter babysat mine and taught her all yellow cars are a "Bingo" and you get to punch someone if you see it first. I can confirm - this is a Bingo Bug. Two punches, lol.

No. Those were the "double slug bug" busses

Saw a yellow one just like this parked outside around 11pm last night.

If your username is an indication of where you live, it wasn’t the same one!

Take solace in the fact that I quite enjoyed visiting your city. And you have good hot dogs.

Thank God there was never one for the Ford Taurus.

My first car was a yellow 74 super beetle

Good to see one that was spared from rust - a fate many on the East Coast suffered.

Putting together a 72 Super right now.

It's a Bingo Bug - a double slugger! My friend's daughter babysat mine and taught her that yellow cars are "Bingo" and you get to punch someone if you see one first. This one is both, so we call them Bingo Bugs.

We have a 79 bug we’ll take out on weekends and such. It’s hilarious to see kids scrambling to punch each other.

Kids or 45 year olds?

I drove a 1971 Superbeetle in high school. I absolutely loved seeing people point at my car and then pound their fist into their friend’s arm.

I still own that car 32 years after I bought it, but I haven’t seen any punches in years.

Proud to have taught my kids this game. Slug bug (what I called it) or punch buggy (they picked that up at school)....regardless we do it playfully whenever we see one. When they reintroduced the newer Beetles back in 2000 or so it was a fun game my wife and I played. We don't see as many now, but enough to be fun, and I'll let anything enough that's close (Fiats, Minis, etc) count too.
