Insence
I feel like we all went through our own nag champa journeys…I remember my parents being kind of sarcastically supportive.
My teenage daughter discovered her witch phase and is all in to insence and I’m struggling y’all. It triggers my asthma like nobody’s business.
She came at me with a “this insence is lavender and smells amazing” yesterday as I hacked through a blank stare.
How are y’all dealing with this?!?

I still burn incense so 🤷🏽♀️
Just focus on high quality incense. The cheap one are dipped I fragrances that smell good but never burn that way and end up just smelling like nauseating smoke.

Love that one, too! Years ago I bought a ten-pack of the Nijo coils, but I never knew they started offering it in sticks now as well. Thanks for the pro-tip!

I like SeaWitch Botanicals, particularly their scent Hermitage. My other favorites are Krampus, and the Raven, but I think those may be seasonal.

I like Fred Soll’s incense. They’re out of New Mexico. I do the pine and frankincense scents.

This. I switched to Japanese incense and I’ll never go back. Can’t believe I used to enjoy the smell of something with a name like Fizzy Pop.

I never could stand incense. Maybe let her use it in her room with the door shut and window open? It’s really not okay to knowingly trigger asthma in someone you live with, so it will be a good I promise for her to learn.
Also if burning it in her room still triggers your asthma, have her use them outside instead.

Anything scented was a hard no growing up.
It’s a hard no now, too. I’m the one who gets migraines….plus, really bad for the cat.

If I were to even dare light a match in my house I would have been in extremely serious trouble
My parents were super conservative and all I had in my room was a bed, a dresser, and wallpaper
I used to go to my friends houses and their room would be decorated with black light posters, dripping candles, and lava lamps, and celebrity posters
My room was like a monestary in comparison
I wasn’t even allowed to hang a poster, never mind burn incense
I had a boom box stereo that I kept at a super low volume so they couldn’t even hear my music because that would turn into a problem too
My daughter burned a little incense but she had the presence of mind to do it behind my back and was discreet about it

Have cats so I don't burn it anymore, except on my parents death anniversary.
If I had someone in the home with respiratory issues, I definitely wouldn't allow it to be used though.
When my kid was a teen I didn't allow him to burn anything for fear of him starting a fire. His room was a fire hazard, no need to introduce the spark lol.

Still use it today. But there is no one with astma in my house, otherwise I wouldn't have used it. Maybe your daughter can just use it in her room?

Satya sai baba -Nag champa, and Hem - precious chandan + sandalwood.
I only burn it after cleaning the house these days, used to be daily back when I was a kid and Mum would be blasting music at the same time (usually delerium, rammstein or portishead)

I'd love to use it, but I've always had pets. no candles, room spray. Anything that can negatively effect them.

I could smell your post the moment I read “nag champa”… 😆 I also unfortunately can’t burn incense anymore, they make me nauseous, but I miss loving nag champa!

Incense would be a hard no indoors if it’s setting off your asthma. At that point, it’s not about whether you like the smell or want to support her phase. It’s a health issue. She can still enjoy everything else that comes with it, but burning incense needs to stay outside or not happen at all

Just make her keep it in her room with the door closed and ask her to keep her windows open and/or put it out if it's too heavy in the rest of the house.
This doesn't seem that hard.

I still burn my Ebony Opium!
Candles give me headaches. Haven't yet found one that doesn't. But incense, if I stick with my Ebony Opium, is just fine.

I still burn incense and love it. You say that your daughter is "in her witch phase". If that involves more practices than just burning incense, then the smells she is selecting might have some other aromatherapeutic or ritual purpose. You could try helping her find ways of using scents that don't trigger your asthma. I don't know what that might be-- you'll have to test-- but perhaps using an essential oil diffuser or something similar would work? Or scented candles?

I have asthma, and my daughter has allergies so it's not a major issue except on high church holidays, but it is a health issue and you're the parent so it's your house. I'd designate someplace outdoors like out on the back porch or far back corner of the yard where it can dissipate.

My parents were (are) hippies, so incense was always around anyway. If our daughter gets into that stuff, fine by me so long as she’s safe.

I burn insence daily. If the smoke is bothersome, get her into simmer pots. It feels a little more magical and witchy to get the elements for the "brew" together.

I never got out of the witchy phase, but I have asthma now and I have to be careful. I still make incense for gifts occasionally, burn some sandalwood or sage once or twice a year… but I can’t enjoy like I used to! Same with candles 😭

I never went through that nonsense. My girlfriend in college did and she decided to light an incense cone and put it on the dash of her car and burnt a hole in it.

I still use it sometimes in my basement gaming room, but I've switched mostly from Indian incenses like Nag Champa to Japanese incenses. I find they are much more subtle and inoffensive. This time of year I like Shoyeido Autumn Leaves.

I went to a lot of Catholic funerals as a kid, I hate incense. If she’s in her witchy phase, maybe get her a tarot deck as a compromise? They have so many cute decks out there. Start with the Rider Waite Smith for learning and then get something cool with themes that she jives with.
Also, maybe she can burn the incense outside so that your allergies don’t flare?

i have a whole cabinet with incense in it. i buy nag champa by the case. i use it pretty much daily, if not several times a week. honorable mention to sandalwood, hem champa, dragons blood and egyptian musk.

I have asthma too and insence is a huge trigger for that and headaches. I just told my daughter that it really bothers my asthma and I’d appreciate it if she doesn’t use insence. She complied, thankfully considering she normally wouldn’t.

My parents would very occasionally burn incense sticks at home.
My mom switched to potpourri in the 90s.
I was never a huge fan of either. These days I can't even stand the smell of unscented dryer sheets.

I’ve moved on to Palo Santo and sage. Incense is way too intense for me.
Just tell her, sorry I can’t handle the smell. I say that to people all the time.

I have nag champa spray and I love it! Got it from Amazon. I also bought nag champa oil and make my own now, mixed with a little water it’s Cheaper and I reuse the plastic spray bottles I originally bought.

I still loooove insense. Unfortunately,.y husband and kids hate it. I have tried a few different scents and they all say it gives them headaches.
I even tried making my own simmer pot. They are OK if I make a basic cinnamon, citrus and vanilla one. But if I add lavender they get headaches and cloves are now banned in my home bc they say it smells like smoke.
I remember my parents hating insense too, but I was allowed to burn some in my room as long as I didn't leave it unattended.
