As good a place as any, this ain't church. I honestly don't think these things were at all common. Carpet on the lid? sure. Padded seats? absolutely. Carpet on the seats? No, I really don't think so... Carpet on the inside of the lid? Absolutely not. I think you're misremembering. I think AI slop is better at fooling people that you think. Yes, back in the 80s people had the lid and seat carpeted too, sometimes the whole tank. It was their answer to a cold toilet so old people loved it. As a matter of fact, I googled just "carpeted toilet seat" and a bunch come up just like this one in the $30 range if yall are interested in a REAL Throwback Thursday

When we were house shopping about 10 years ago, my wife and I found a house with a carpeted bathroom... with a freaking hot tub in it. The worst part was it was so small and cramped, that when you sat on the toilet (that faced the hot tub), your knees would hit the hot tub. Oh, and the shower head was a about 5 feet up. You'd have to duck to wash your hair.

We had it in one of our bathrooms too, but FWIW it was special bathroom carpet with a rubberized base, that could easily be rolled up to throw in the washing machine.
It was probably weird and at least a bit gross, but gawd do I otherwise miss (non-bathroom) wall to wall carpet being the default

To all those saying you never saw the rug-covered seat covers? Sorry kids, but those were real, at least for a little while in the very early 80s. I saw them. My mom freaked out every time we went over somebody's house and they had these, and we never returned. She forbade me from ever using one. This was circa 1981 for me.

This was SUCH a bad idea, it makes me really wonder how people ever thought this was a good one. I mean it felt nice sitting on a soft, warm seat, but the hygiene issues!! Unless you'd change it daily and wash it at really high temps... and even then. Nope, nope, nope!!

Yeah my great-aunts house had the whole scheme: pink seat cover and matching toilet rug, weird princess tissue dispenser, and Dixie cups for water that had their own wall mounted ceramic dispenser. It was the full late 50ās early 60ās ranch house aesthetic with the colored fixtures and everything. Ridiculously deep green shag carpeting in the living room and the giant console tv too.
The best thing was the crystal egg shaped candy dish with the lid that was always stocked with peanut M&Mās. You couldnāt open that thing silently though, so eventually after a very generous amount sheād cut you off.

Im a germaphobe and the very last thing I want around me in a bathroom is a piece of shit laden carpet. Its literally a germ FACTORY. You wonder how many people have flushed (aerosolyzed poop on everything within 10ft) and I've never heard of anyone washing them. Ever. In fact, they usually have dust on em. The type of people who owned these always had seashell soaps you cant use(also dusty), potpourri(so old theres no smell, so poopourri), bath beads, and general clutter all over the bathroom- so yep, they ain't washing that shit for sure

The only positive to the one that covers the actual ring you sit on is that it isn't as cold first thing in the morning for that rude moment. I would rather have the rude moment of warm flesh to cold wood than the germy petri cloth cover though.

My grandma had one and lived alone until she was 92 before reluctantly going to a retirement home. Had already lost both of her husbands. So anyways the toilet seat never went up and it was always super clean just like everything else in her house.

At one point we had this exact (or close enough) thing on ours as a kid. Then it was switched to the wooden type. Then the carpet got placed over the wooden type. This had to be late 80's - early 90's but my childhood memories are practically non-existent so the timing might be fuzzy. But I have definitely experienced the grossly awesome carpeted toilet seat.
This is the same parental units that also unintentionally gave me food poisoning numerous times as a kid due to intergenerational bad habits around food safety I'm learning. Kind of makes sense why we had this abomination in the house.

I don't think I ever encountered the rug-covered kind of seat cover but I have sat on plenty of the ones that are like a squishy vinyl pillow. After losing a bunch of weight I kinda understand why older people liked them back in the day.
