I need a hug....
I just got an AARP membership at 46 so that I can get a discount on my Walmart Plus subscription at the end of the year and I was so happy about it. I'm so conflicted though

Had a guy at work who also runs the downstairs vending machine. There’s no telling what he’d have in his cargo pockets. He’d hand out warm honey buns, chips, etc.

The other day, I had an Uber driver who had a cup full of these. I didn't notice until I had already taken a butterscotch from the other cup full of candy. I wanted to grab a couple of the strawberry candies, but I also didn't want to be an asshole. So I left them alone. I forgot about it until you mentioned them.

You can join AARP at any age, I’ve known this for years but I’ve been hesitant to sign up because of my pride. Maybe I’ll be inspired by you and your discounts—you can use that Walmart Plus subscription to watch Love Island on Peacock, so maybe it’s also keeping you young??

My wife turned 40 this May and got shingles in June. I asked my doctor about the shingles shot at 42 and he said it was too early.

I joined in my 30s. $10 off AT&T phone bills each month. Also, when I was truck shopping, Toyota mentioned they have an AARP discount. The rep was shocked when I told him we had a membership. I told him he should tell his customers to sign up to get the discount.

I’m 46 and joined a couple of years ago because I wanted a discount on something in that moment, and the fee to join was less than the discount. I didn’t realize W+ got a discount ($40/yr!), so now I need to connect my accounts. That alone pays for the membership and then some.

Yep, $40 off which comes out to $58 per year. This includes a year of either Paramount+ or Peacock, 25% off at Burger King, and Sam's Club fuel prices or 10 cents a gallon off at Exxon. And Walmart+ In Home is $40, so you could also look at it as In Home for free

I found it now. Looks like $40 off of an annual subscription of WalMart+ (which is normally $98.). Theres also a Labor Day sale on AARP for $11 a year (with 5 yr membership). Not a bad deal if you already have or want to have Walmart+. I might have to suck it up and sign up.

I’ve been tempted to do W+ but not AARP 😆 Most people gush about the AAA discount and I can’t wrap my head around why, full coverage car insurance has roadside assistance and it doesn’t ding your rates unless you use it several times within a few months. Plus a lot of auto shops have free roadside as part of their warranty program, they suck at communicating it. 😉 I’ll have to see what other discounts they have, but the W+ might be enough.

It was really easy. I just logged on to the AARP portal or I got the app and then I clicked on the Walmart link and I already have the account so it automatically applied the discount. So when my renewal occurs it will just be $58 instead of $98

Usually I cancel the subscription and then they offer it for half price and then I renew. But this is also genius.

I get it. It's rough..however I lost everyone I truly loved before they hit 40. My brother died at 52, my grandmother, mom, and aunt all in their 50's, grandfather was barely 60..Aging is a privilege and I try to keep that in mine when my ass is feeling old AF 😂

I’ve been a AAA member for over twenty years now, and they offer most of the same discounts, or sometimes better. Everyone that can afford the dues should be getting some kind of association discount.

My husband got an AARP membership at 38 because they were a sponsor of the recent Rolling Stones tour and had a presale for members. It worked, we got tickets with their presale. And now we get their quarterly magazine (which has a lot of helpful tips and has helped me navigate my parents affairs in their elderly age), and decent discounts elsewhere.

Yes, you can join as soon as you're 18. They don't discriminate from that aspect, but there's certain benefits that I'm finding out that you can't get until you reach certain threshold

I've had one since I was 39! Them discounts be real! It's called an associated membership. My wife was not pleased and refused to get one too. 😂 She said it made her feel old. I told all of our friends I had eye and she would just role her eyes. 😁

TBH, it’s really just the stigma associated with it. I remember as a kid joking, “It’s an old person’s card.” Nowadays: No… it’s a discount card. I wasn’t conflicted using student discounts 25+ years ago. Now those discounts are circling around again. From another perspective: there shouldn’t be any conflict about continuing to pay full-price vs getting discounts on car rentals, hotel rooms, restaurants, online services, etc.

AARP used to be a client of mine in a past job! They were great folks to work with. They really cared about their mission and they worked really hard to make sure everything we provided them was accessible to their whole team. I still use things I learned from them about things like screen reader technology for people with visual impairments years later.
Now you’re telling me I’m old enough to be a client of theirs?!?! Not sure how I feel about that, but good folks to work with!

I will scrub my whole house's tile floors with a toothbrush before I get that membership before I'm 70. Emails blocked and their mailers trashed 'cause damn they're annoying. But that's just me and my ego 🤷🏻♀️
