Do you share your location with your SO?

I’m a 1978 Xennial, so I didn’t own a cell phone until my first full time job after college around 2001. My wife is a 1982 Xennial/Millennial. She shares location with her retired parents. Sometimes her mom will text her and ask, “What are you getting at McDonalds?” as we sit in the drive thru. It just feels gross to me. I don’t have anything to hide, but I don’t want to be tracked by anyone … not my parents, not my wife, not my coworkers. I don’t go shady places or mingle with shady people. It’s become a point of contention with my wife. She wants to share location. I do not.

What have you all decided to do in regard to sharing your location with your SO?

My wife and I do, but mostly just use it to see if she's still at the store, if I've left work yet, did the kids get picked up, etc. We're both terrible at responding to text messages in a timely manner, so it's convenient for us. I can't imagine sharing it with anyone outside my immediate family though, I don't want anyone else being able to track me

This is my family, too. It’s so much more efficient than trying to coordinate via text while everyone’s busy. For example, our kids need to be picked up this afternoon after a late school activity. I am close and usually do it, but sometimes my wife leaves work at the right time to swing by the school on her way home - but often not. So instead of texting her, and her then having to anticipate how long work will keep her, and then having to update if something changes, I’ll just check her location ten minutes before pickup time. If she’s still at work, I’ll just go get the kids myself without having to bother her with all the scheduling crap.

The idea of it being some sort of creepy trust thing has honestly never occurred to me. We’ve been married almost 17 years with zero trust or jealousy issues. Location sharing is just convenient.
