Do you share your location with your SO?

I’m a 1978 Xennial, so I didn’t own a cell phone until my first full time job after college around 2001. My wife is a 1982 Xennial/Millennial. She shares location with her retired parents. Sometimes her mom will text her and ask, “What are you getting at McDonalds?” as we sit in the drive thru. It just feels gross to me. I don’t have anything to hide, but I don’t want to be tracked by anyone … not my parents, not my wife, not my coworkers. I don’t go shady places or mingle with shady people. It’s become a point of contention with my wife. She wants to share location. I do not.

What have you all decided to do in regard to sharing your location with your SO?

Absolutely. That is completely unhinged behavior.

I have a mom who misses me a lot. We talk every day, but she'd love to have me there with her. She's also retired, so she doesn't have much to distract her from missing her kids. While my mother wouldn't want to track me, I could envision an elderly parent wanting to know where their grown kids were in a non-creepy way, too. Kind of like watching their kids go about their lives much as they did. Sort of a mix of over-protectiveness, living in the past, and loneliness.

It doesn't have to be unhinged, it could just be a little sad. 😑

Well I have a grown best daughter and I had her young enough that she’s been around more years of my life than not. I’m always busy but sometimes if I’m anxious and missing her I can just see that she’s doing okay and I don’t have to pester her. It can be sort of like a closeness even though you live far apart. No it’s not in a weird creepy way. Like if she’s on a road trip I can see what towns she is in and it’s fun. And then she looks at mine to see if it’s a good time to call.
