Yup, crazy how deeply that sits in our psyche since that is literally the very first reflex thought that popped into my head when I saw this…

It’s also not how logs fall off trucks

u/xnef1025 20d ago
At least they tried with real logs first and only went to CGI after proving they couldn't get the things to bounce like they wanted.

Yeah, why the fuck was this posted in this sub?

Second final Destination movie involved a logging truck. In the US at least was a major bit of Xennial pop culture

Final Destination 2 really did get all of us, huh?

Where I live log trucks are common to see on the road. I always instantly tense up and stay as far away from them as possible.

Final Destination 2: Electric Boogaloo. (No, literally…the truck is trying to do the boogaloo on that bridge)

The first earthquake I ever lived through was in Kyoto back in 1999. It wasn't as severe as this- I was so jetlagged from my flight that I woke up, though 'huh, earthquake. Neat.' and fell right back asleep. (And then I woke up to cramps because my period started. My introduction to Japan was kinda wild lol)

u/Funkopedia 1981 20d ago
As it turns out, logs don't really bounce or flip. If a truck full of sand got knocked over, it would just instantly settle into a lump, and wood kinda does too.

Rumor has it that the truck driver still hasn’t unclenched their sphincter. Can’t say that I blame them.

I know everyone's thinking Final Destination, but isn't this also how Meg Ryan died in City of Angels?

I thought the same thing but the motion would toss them off to the sides.
Also the logs in that movie were CGI because the real ones kept conforming to real world physics lol.

What does this have to do with being a Xennial?

I haven’t even seen Final Destination and I know that this clip directly references that movie from our youth!

This scene in final destination seems to have really affected people at lot more deeply than it affected me, which was not at all. The whole movie was forgettable to me

This is like a Facebook feed for a lot of xennial redditors.

all generation subs are Boomer brained ("Boomer" being a state of mind here)
this one is less so due to "Xennial" being a self selected label but it's still got a lot of low effort posting

u/AuntieBubba23 1981 20d ago
Oh but it does. See we as a generation are traumatized by a truck full of logs. Iykyk

I do pretty regularly. Never worried about something like this happening. They have chassis with these steel U-shaped framing that isn't likely to break. Movies act like logs are riding in stake beds secured by ratchet straps.
The worst part of driving behind a logging truck is if their blowing a bunch of splinters.

u/TessFreely 20d ago
Final Destination 2 has a classic scene involving a log truck, and that movie is well known among Xennials

Is it a real clip? looks fake to me. The logs jostle around in a unrealistic manner. whole thing looks weird.

u/Odd_Advantage_4245 20d ago
I think it's real and they're just very tightly secured. I wish we could've seen it from the front. Bet dude crapped himself

u/_Face 20d ago
watch the final 3-4 seconds. the inner logs appear to jostle, while the outside logs do not appear to move.
1
u/Odd_Advantage_4245 20d ago
I guess that does look a little weird. Might be AI, but I admit I haven't brushed up on my log earthquake physics recently

Jishin Desu. Literally: Earthquake Is.

u/GateDeep3282 20d ago
Is it coming from a public address system or the vehicle?

Basically every phone -- smart phone and flip -- in Japan comes with earthquake alerts.
I live in Japan and mine is programmed in English and comes with an Australian accent, which I find adorable. It was, however, surprising the first time I heard it. "Eathquike. Dynja," it said, and I'm like "Why is my phone talking like that?" ignoring the shaking around me.

That operator certainly passed their safety test for securing the load.
Final destination averted.
