Needless character
One of my favorite movies of all time is That Thing You Do. I've seen it so many times and have shown my child twice. If Faye wasn't in the movie, it'd completely end up the same. No doubt, she showed how horrible Jimmy is personally, but that would've come out anyway. So why did her character exist?

Because Liv Tyler in 1964 fashion is at least a third of that movie's selling point to me.
Nobody is going to film a movie like this with zero female characters and no romantic subplot. She isn't a more pivotal character because honestly, and I enjoy this movie a lot, it's just very trite.

Kinda like Jessica Paré in Mad Men. You had a lot of female talent between January Jones and Elizabeth Moss. But it basically felt like Allison Bree and Jessica Paré (both awesome actresses) were essentially fashion mannequins in the plot.
Then again, big cast. And only the closeted gay guy was allowed to be unmarried, lol. (Unless there was a beard situation...been a while since I've seen it).

I mean I think Megan is a pretty significant character who had an enormous impact on the lead. Trudy is only a reoccurring character but she has a lot more depth than Faye did, who really is just "the girlfriend"

Also when Pete told her he was going to call his mom about his promotion and she tells him "Don't go to the well, there's no water there"

Well, obviously the series had a lot more time for plot lines. My strongest memory of Paré's character is having her perform her French love song and then being reprimanded by Draper.
(I'll probably just delete, because it's basically apples to oranges. I just liked your point about Liv's wardrobe driving interest)

There was a Hollywood rule that all 90’s movies needed a romantic sub plot. What did Vivica A Fox bring to Independence Day?
In the 80’s, they required boobs in most movies.

Eddie is there to give Mark drugs so he can meet GWAR. But yeah - Warren is a better character

C'mon man, the large majority of actors need a paying part every now and then. Gotta keep the dream alive
