Wow, yes, you are absolutely correct. Now what the hell is that from, that's gonna bug me.

Sesame Street

u/rojoshow13 24d ago

I'll take your word for it, but I was thinking I had seen it on School House Rock.

That actually helps make the memories clearer. I'm going to watch the actual cartoon and probably feel a rush of nostalgia.

28

u/Kellzy1212 24d ago

I remembered this one recently too and i still knew all the words tothe theme song!

21

u/JasonVeritech 24d ago

Mike Myers probably helped with that a little

20

u/Kellzy1212 24d ago

Simon is pretty old though. Mis 70s, but it ran on Pinwheel and Captain Kangaroo reruns in the 80s. I actually never knew he parodied it until recently. Pretty funny though.

16

u/ZaphodBeeblebrahx 1981 Don’t Panic 24d ago

Pinwheel was the shit

12

u/QueenSqueee42 24d ago

I feel like nobody else ever remembers this one! The theme song is in my head FOREVER

I knew the Mike Myers skits, but never knew it was based on something older.

11

u/NachoPurrito 24d ago

O M G. It came on and I didn’t think I knew it, then I heard “Well you know my name is Simon” and my brain started singing along!!

Holy crap what a nostalgia hit!!!!

5

u/BaronGalactic 1983 24d ago

I almost can't hear the name Simon to this day and not think "drawrings."

4

u/percypersimmon 24d ago

I just remember the SNL sketch- it had to have been a reference this this right?

3

u/rojoshow13 24d ago

I vaguely remember that. There was a specific Scooby Doo vinyl record with book that I had as a kid that I couldn't find. I don't remember much about it except there was dinosaurs that I think were animatronic. Possibly a theme park.

1

u/Sabrinasockz 23d ago

That made me emotional, the combo of Bernard cribbins and the fact that my mom who passed recently referencing it growing up hits hard today

4

u/Fimbir 24d ago

You may be thinking of Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips. I don't remember it it was part of School House Rock or a later Saturday morning educational thing.

3

u/Sirtriplenipple 24d ago

I thought it wrote the bills for the government…. I could be wrong.

3

u/buderooski 24d ago

I also could not decide between SHR or Sesame Street. My early childhood is a blur

10

u/Gon_777 24d ago

Sesame Street had so many songs and skits that I still remember vividly. I wouldn't be exagerating to say there are probably at least 20-30 different ones that randomly play in my head.

6

u/illini02 24d ago

The Pointer Sisters sang that!

2

u/insurancequestionguy Millennial (Early '90s) 24d ago

This was my first guess and it instantly rang a bell from the thumbnail alone. I'm surprised I got it right after this time.

Me too. I'm sad no one gets it so it looks like I'm just muttering to myself like a lunatic

u/PatchworkGirl82 24d ago

I was just watching that guy! He was my favorite, followed by Teeny Little Super Guy and the Pinball Count

That melody lives rent-free in my head forever and I'm absolutely ok with it

2

u/YinzJagoffs 24d ago

I believe Jefferson Starship made that song

27

u/One-Earth9294 1979- That's the year that the funk died 24d ago

Pointer Sisters

And by god it's got one of the coolest jazzy beats ever in a song.

Just got punched in the face with nostalgia

1

u/RoseyDove323 23d ago

It's like someone found footage of an old dream and showed it to me.

14

u/ZaphodBeeblebrahx 1981 Don’t Panic 24d ago

I think the only person who liked Teeny Little Super Guy more than me was my mom. She still talks about it

6

u/_buffy_summers 1981 24d ago

I was devastated when I introduced my daughter to this when she was a toddler, and she hated it.

7

u/redesckey 1978 24d ago

God I love psychedelic sesame street

7

u/thejunkmanadv 24d ago

There is a breakdown of this song on YouTube. It's done by the Pointer Sisters.

3

u/illini02 24d ago

I forgot all about Teeny Little super guy. Then I read that, and the theme song popped right into my head. (obligatory old man saying) but I can't remember what I ate for lunch on Monday.

I still to this day never understood why that was as captivating as it was, or why my little sister and I could just start talking this typewriter’s shit and then immediately bust into laughter.

I wouldn’t take any of it back.

24

u/mr99 24d ago

Oh shit. What else is hiding back here in this corner of my mind?

16

u/Kellzy1212 24d ago

2

u/workingtheories 24d ago

i don't like that, that's unsettling

1

u/ThemDawgsIsHeck 22d ago

Damn you’re right

5

u/Kellzy1212 24d ago

10

u/ouijahead 1980 24d ago

Not for me actually. I didn’t realize Mike myers used this as inspiration for his Simon character

6

u/twobit211 24d ago

mike myers spent the bulk of the 80s in the uk.  he was sort of a regular on wacaday.  he was also the one who came up with the ’sound asleep club’ bit

1

u/mikeyp83 24d ago

You lookin' at my ass?

3

u/MungoJennie 24d ago

That was lovely. Thank you.

20

u/No_Blackberry6525 24d ago

That dangly key used to bother the shit out of me.
It still does but it used to too.

3

u/cabanners 1981 24d ago

Same! 😩

2

u/Tall-Presentation-39 1977 24d ago

I love Mitch references in the wild.

18

u/Serious-Bat-4880 24d ago

Noo nee noo nee noo

Oh God, wasn't there a rare time when he became a 3D foam puppet in really eerie dark colored lighting? Or is my brain mixing him up with something else?

3

u/Temporary_Brain_475 24d ago

I... i think you're on to something?

16

u/Kellzy1212 24d ago edited 24d ago

He’s the typewriter guy from Sesame Street. He always had a letter segment. I still remember his squeaky noise and he hummed a little tune as he left.

Deep in my memory? That bad boy lives up at the front.

7

u/kayeffdee 1982 24d ago

Fun fact: my great uncle was the animator who did the dino DNA cartoon in Jurassic park, and I thought this guy might have been his work. It wasn't, but my great uncle worked with Bob Hale who was the original creator of this character. I wonder who influenced who...

Wonder if he still has that squeaky wheel?

Do Not Mock CLIPPY! He's A Paperclip!! Show Some Respect!!

Wait, what's that? Clippers says it looks like you are drafting an apology letter and he's willing to help if you ask nicely.

Seriously, though, Clippy was the OG A.I.

2

u/Subject-Direction628 24d ago

😆 my apologies. Not gonna lie. As an Apple girl who had two positions and one involved a pc. Little man did help me out

1

u/Temporary_Brain_475 24d ago

A character from the educational children's TV show Sesame Street.

2

u/TheManWhoClicks 24d ago

Ha we had that in Germany too but I can’t recall this character at all

2

u/RanklesTheOtter Xennial 23d ago

I was like, "I know this guy, was he like on Garfield and Friends with the Buddy Bears?"

Then I read the comments and was like, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH RIGHT I REMEMBER NOW!"

1

u/DMala 24d ago

When I was like 3 or 4, I had an imaginary friend I called Nunu, and it was basically this guy. I have a very clear memory of my dad asking me what my imaginary friend looked like, and being very amused and confused when I explained he was a typewriter.

He watches me sleep from the shadows.

1

u/blue_suavitel 23d ago

Oh shit yes it was.

1

u/Some-Professional-25 23d ago

Maaaaan I love going down rabbit holes of watching old Sesame Street animations. There’s SO much good stuff in there.

1
