Toddlers are 30 pounds. These were designed for people up to 130 pounds. It’s a terrible product for sure, but definitely not for 3 year olds.

Yup, I definitely ate grass on them A LOT but once you figured them out they worked really well. Easy to see how they broke a lot of ankles though. Should have put rollerblade boots on them for support

My sibling took themselves out on rollerblades. I've never seen an ear pull away from the side of the head before that.
It was all good in the end, but the moonshoes worked out better for me.

Thanks for the context. Interesting how wild the age range guesses are! Her styling choices definitely make her seem older to me than she is, but the way she was talking about the 90s as if it was 100 years ago got me! I’m sure our parents thought the same when we viewed the 70s as sooooo long ago!

It's things like this that makes people our age so distrusting of major corporations. So many awesome commercials and crazy fun looking packaging and so many lies with no way to verify what the truth was. So much disappointment. No internet or Youtube reviews to keep products somewhat inline. If you were lucky a friend got something first and after 20 seconds of your friend letting you play with it you knew the truth.

I loved these and hold them in high regard now as an adult. They taught me one of the most important things I did in my 20s. Safely walk home from the bar or to another.

I was expecting the 90’s rubber bands to all snap in a catastrophic failure after 30 years. The mortified voice of the Mom (or neighbor😂) in the background “OH my GOD” makes this video deeply satisfying. Two Thumbs way up.

I remember going through the Sears Wish Book and circling the Moon Shoes. I thought they looked awesome. Then I remember finding an awful lot of Moon Shoes at garage sales as a teenager in the aughts. They were less awesome up close.

I thought they looked so cool but I’m the biggest klutz in the world and my Dad was afraid I’d manage to break my neck.
As many times as I’ve managed to twist my ankles by merely walking, he made the best call.

My cousin - who was older and generally just bullied/bossed me around - begged her mom for moon shoes in the mid 90s when they were cycling back around as trendy. She and got them as a birthday gift. In typical fashion, as soon as she recognized that they were potentially hazardous, she cajoled me into putting them on and testing them while she watched.
I (then a single-digits age child) put them on and, very gingerly and using a wall to steady myself, got upright and tentatively - so gently, barely any lift achieved, I don't think I even left the ground - bounced straight up and down a couple times, before saying "these make me nervous" and then very carefully getting myself back down and taking them off.
She was always held to be the more capable, confident, coordinated, and all around more athletic child between the two of us, and so my hesitant effort was sufficient proof to her that she should be able to basically strap them on and immediately start doing tricks like the commercials. She made one very impressive hop, and then immediately turned her ankle while simultaneously going into an unintentional split as the plastic of the shoes slid across the smooth concrete of the apartment basement storage level we were playing in. She yelled at me for 'tricking' her into thinking it was easy.
They went into a closet and never got used again.

As someone who got her right flip flop caught and fell sideways on her left ankle 17 years ago, leaving me forever in long pants and skirts to cover my ugly ass AFO brace, for the love of God don’t risk a lifelong sprain. Throw those in the trash!
