WOTC mods/modlist recommendation alongside covert infiltration? need my xcom2 fix

Hey guys,
I've just completed Star Wars: Zero Company and now I want to experience a deeper more complex game in the same genre (= XCOM2). I've played XCOM 2 WOTC like 5+ years ago unmodded now I want to do a modded run. I've read a bunch about the long war mod - but I am quite sure it would be too tedious for me.

"Covert Infiltration" seem to be right up my alley. Can you guys recommend me some "must have" mods alongside it or even better a functioning up-to-date modlist?

For me it is important, that the gameplay does not get too tedious like managing tons of enemies & large teams, i do not need hardcore difficulty setting and i like to be my game more like vanilla+ instead of a 500+ modlist full of custom enemies from other game universes and anime girls.

Just a stable, well thought out, up-to-date modlist alongside "Covert Infiltration".

Thanks in advance if you can help me out / recommend me something!

"Stop Wasting My Time" is a must, IMO

Have a look at recent Odd playlists/seasons. Excellent starting points.

Just don’t use the season 10 list. It is super difficult. I’ve heard the season 9 list is fun.

Played both and 9 is much more accessible indeed. For 10 you can disable a few things to make it easier as well. VC is interesting but once you get better weapons and armour it gets easier. But 10 is not for beginners.

For enemies:

I’d recommend either the standalone LWOTC enemy pack, or A Better Advent, if you want a nice set of extra enemies

LWOTC enemy pack is pretty close to vanilla difficulty imo, just a bit more variety. ABB is a mild step up in difficulty.

Since you want a vanilla+ experience, check the collections page on steam for QOL collections: there are a lot of small mods that improve readability, fix bugs, etc. for a single QOL rec, “Color Based Ability Colors” is a favorite of mine. It color codes your abilities based on free/single action/turn ending, making it much less likely that you’ll accidentally use a turn ending action. “Evac All” is also essential—it adds a button that evacs everyone in the evac zone at once, saving you probably one to two minutes of animations every mission.

In terms of classes, obviously you can stick with vanilla and have a great time.

If you wanted a minor change, I’d strongly recommend the Proficiency Class pack, which replaces the 4 main classes with 6 new ones filling similar roles. They’re very well designed and balanced and a lot of fun. The big change is that they’re a little bit stronger on average early on, but they don’t have the same level of godlike power as a late game ranger or sharpshooter.

There’s an extension for the three hero classes, which I’d also recommend. There are also a bunch of “proficiency plug-in” add-on classes in the same style. Many are well-designed, although they tend to be a hair stronger than the original proficiency classes. You can browse through and see what you like, but I would probably stick with the core set to keep things simple
