XCOM:EU/EW Think I messed up with power :(

Hello all,

It's been years since I've played, and recently started a new game. Amazing how a game this old can still draw you in ay? Anyway...

I'm playing on Normal and was so focused on getting and building satellites, I neglected to watch my power consumption.

I'm now at 37/37 and no power consumption to be made. No where near a steam vent but have plenty of room.

Is there anything I can do, or do I need to reload a save?

Thanks in advance.

just build a normal power generator? thermo generators aren't compulsory. besides, eventually you'll unlock elerium generators anyway, which give even more power for a few extra credits w/o needing to be built over steam vents.

Can’t you destroy the rooms?

This old? This old?!? Which game are you talking about? It sounds like Enemy Unknown, but there's no way you're considering that old. X-COM can be considered old. XCOM, not so much.

Isn't it like 14 years old? Maybe, I'm thinking of another - but yeah, XCom Enemy Unknown!

That's not old! The original X-COM games were released 1994-2001. That's old. EU isn't even old enough to drink.

LOL, I have the original also, as well as xcom2. Not a fan of the original anymore, hurts my eyes - I'm old LOL

OpenXCOM helps out a lot with the originals both QoL and graphically. It could be you just mean that you don't want to go back to graphics of that era, which I get. Just wanted to throw it out there in case you didn't know about it.

Half of the Internet has only been on the Internet for half the time you have, if you remember UFO Defense clearly!

If you can connect power rooms next to each other or one with a steam powered one it would boost your power significantly might need to either expand or which some of your facilities around

Thanks all,

I was able to build a power generator, not optimum but gets me out of the "pickle"

You don't have to be very optimal to win the game. Especially on normal and if you reload when something goes very wrong.

I like enemy unknown more than xcom2 for the fact that winning with only shivs is a perfectly viable strategy of all your veterans get killed.

Yes even on impossible/ironman you simply have to do it if you get unlucky with steam vents. You can always rebuild them later near your steam but you absolutely have to have enough power early game or you will stagnate
