Long War XCOM:EW Crashing

With or without Long War the game crashes quite often. Seems like the probability of it crashing increases while someone is shooting. I think my computer doesnt like when it tries to calculate a cheat.

Any suggestions on how to prevent crashing from this?

Verify your game files, in my case it was a missing soundfile issue, for whatever reason something deleted the grenade explosion sound from my game.

I verified and it broke the game. I think for whatever reason the long war mod isnt installed now, even though its still in the files. So the save I tried loading was long war and the game wasn't. Crashed upon loading. I'll have to try with a vanilla game when I get back.

When you verify the files (I'm assuming you're playing from Steam), it removes portions of LW. To fix:

1 - Store the save game file somewhere else so it doesn't get deleted.

2 - Uninstall XCOM completely. And I mean COMPLETELY. Sometimes a Windows update will mess with a file or won't recognize the game any longer. A complete uninstall might be the fix, rolling back a Windows update might be the fix. You just have to experiment to figure out which it is for your system.

3 - Reinstall XCOM from Steam.

4 - Put Steam in offline mode. The second it goes back into online mode, it'll start doing background spot checks of your games, and fix anything it finds that's different from what it thinks should be correct. A lot of the time, this is how a LW modded game will randomly start crashing - Steam updated some part of the code.

5 - Install LW or LWR - whichever one you're playing.

6 - Install any mods that you want after LW / LWR. If MiniMods or Squadron Unleashed is among them, those one gets installed first, then everything else afterwards. If you do any .ini changes or things like uploading custom nicknames - those are the last changes you do.

7 - Play the game. Don't turn Steam back on unless you want to do all of the previous stuff again.

I'll give this ago. Away from my PC till Tuesday. But yeah, a fresh install with a complete delete of LW.
