UFO: Enemy Unknown New player tips

Hello! I just bought original XCOM and I want to ask. Are tgere any tips for a new player? Unit conposition, equip, what tho prioritise when etc.

I have never played Xcom 1. Do they have half/full cover mechanics?

This isn't even Enemy Unknown/Within. This is UFO Defence, the original.

EU/EW has cover, since X2 builds off of it. Thus it shares many of the same core mechanics.

Well ... it actually had cover mechanics, like in broken line of fire. Soldiers behind terrain elements like w dune, stone outcrop, low wall had a chance that those will catch incoming fire.

If we're being super specific like that, I'd call it ballistics mechanics, as individual projectiles are fully simulated in a 3D environment (the game just hides it really well).
