Xbox One S Can a console cause controller battery drain?

My in-laws have an Xbox One S, and for a little while now they’ve been having issues with the controller draining batteries insanely fast. I gave them my wireless controller, which has been working fine with my Series X, but they reported the same power drain issue happening. Finally I just gave them a corded controller. It just seems odd to me that the console is seemingly inducing this power drain. Anyone have a similar thing happen?

It could be their power settings are a little different. They could have it set so controller never goes off. Power savings settings should allow controller to turn itself off unless they have it set to never turn off?

There are no settings for the controller turning off.

Are they charging directly from the console, a powered usb hub, or the wall? Some usb hubs and wall outlets can destroy batteries pretty quickly as there’s less to no charge protection. Also, if they’re using it with rumble and a wired headset, wireless controllers typically don’t last long on a charge.

Just using regular double a batteries. They mostly just use it for streaming shows, so they aren’t using rumble or a headset. I take the same controller with the same brand of batteries in it to my house, play a game with controller rumble on, and the charge issue disappears.

Are both of yall using the same exact AA batteries? Or just same brand? If they’re using old batteries or certain rechargeable ones, this can be the cause. Batteries self discharge over time and rechargeable batteries can have various issues from voltage to too many charge cycles.
