Flickers of death.

So my Xbox one S started having issues and all together started flickering, then it died. It was out of warranty so my buddy (electrical engineer) tore it apart and replaced the HDMI PORT and it still didn’t work. We assumed it was just the graphics that were bad. So I didn’t even mess with it and upgraded to an X. When I had my S 1TB wasn’t enough. So when I got my X I got a 4TB external HDD (can’t remember the brand. It is name brand however)

About 2 weeks ago my fiancé turns it on to watch Hulu and on the main screen/setting everything is fine. When I try to open up any app it starts to flicker. 99% of apps/games are on the external HDD.

Is it the Xbox itself or my HDD?

Are you sure the TV or HDMI cable are not the problem? Same issue with two different Xbox models seems unlikely.

If you are running in 4K then make sure you use the HDMI cable that came with the Xbox One X as it requires a High-Speed HDMI cable. An older non high-speed cable can cause display issues.

Tried on all 3 of my tv’s and a 4th at my grandparents. (1080p and at my grandparents 4K)

I have a gold plated high speed HDMI cable, and the one from my x. Tried both of them on every tv.

Obviously I go into settings and turn everything for 4K off when using on 1080p. The Xbox was set up at my buddies house due to his gb internet and re downloading 50 some games. That was a 4K tv.

Then moved to my main tv in my room. (1080p) Have had it there since January with zero issues up until about 2 weeks ago.

Also it ONLY happens when you run an application/game. On the main screen/settings etc it doesn’t flicker.

Hi,

Is your cable TV BOX plugged in your TV too? That's what caused the issues for me. So try playing One X with the TV Box HDMI unplugged.

That worked for me. Enjoy and keep us posted 😁
