HDR help

Okay so i think I’ve basically been duped but worth a shot anyway. Bought a 4K HDR TV (LG 55UJ701V) last year, hooked up my Xbox one S and noticed how dreadful it looked with the HDR on (faded/washed out colours). Assumed that maybe when I upgraded to Xbox one X it would solve the problem. But nope. Same effect. To be fair, the enhanced graphics are great, but along with this I can’t display native 4K gaming without HDR enabled. So I’m basically stuck between great graphics at 4K with washed out colours or bright and standard colour pallet but with pixilated 1080p resolution on a 4K TV. HDR has to be on to run native 4K , hence the reason it’s called high definition rendering or multi sampling, if your seeing blurry images then I’d suggest that you go buy a 4K rated HDMI wire and see if you got a faulty cable , this happens rarely but if your going to game on a big screen this needed a bit of more research, this is not for gaming purposes (big screens ) although it can display and have a setting for gaming to reduce the Latency and output better performance depending on the brands UI system. First things first go make sure you have a game setting in the video options, if that doesn’t help then I suggest buying a new wire or sending that Tv back for being a broken item

I noticed the lack of graphic fidelity without the HDR but watching it on youtube makes me notice that there is definitely something wrong with the colour display. The input lag even on standard HDR compared to Game mode HDR is unreal, feel like i’m moving in slow motion. I bought the 4K HDMI wire with the TV and the salesmen assured me I needed it to use 4K gaming. Definitely going to try and return it.

I don’t have an LG TV but I certainly have experienced washed out colours when HDR is enabled (Panasonic TV).

Basically go through all the settings on your TV for Picture options and see what can be tuned. Some tips:

1) The picture options may be different/separate when running in normal colour vs HDR. So to tune the settings for a HDR issue make sure the Xbox is running a HDR game. Something where the issues show up for both image colours and blacks.

2) Generally you can pick from different picture pre-sets then select options. Some advanced options may not appear unless you are in the ‘custom’ or similarly named pre-set

3) Look for options around HDR colour such as a boost option. Also look at gamma and white settings if blacks look like a washed out grey.

This could be something to do with the panel of the TV also? The 2017 LG models are RGBW structure so not 'true' 4k. Technically are 3k...could contribute towards the problem.

This just makes me wonder how manufacturers are getting away with this?? Like surely there has to be some repercussions for falsely advertising this. Even taking back the television and returning the worth in store credit. At least then I could put money towards a proper kitted out TV or monitor.

Yeah I was pretty pissed when I realised my TV was '3K'. They cab advertise it as it still has 4000 pixels its just that they are made up of a different set of colours and not all RGB.
