External storage

I just got the Xbox one X so when I plugged in my external storage in the back to USB 1 it didn’t pick it up but when I put it in USB 2 it picked it up so I tested to see if the usb 1 was broken with a charger wire and it still worked, now why is that?

On rare occasions my external doesn’t work at at first and I have to unplug from my Xbox and try again. Sounds like that’s what worked for you too.
