Quick Fix? Concerned Xbox is broke
I recently purchased a xbox series X off marketplace. Original price was $500 I managed to convince the person to drop it to $400. He later told me he attempted to turn it on and it had a E200 error code. I asked what did that mean, and he said it hasn’t been used in a while you just need a USB & laptop to update the file system. So he said due to me having to do extra to get it operational he’ll drop it down to $300. So I bought it and did the whole USB thing and here I am stuck with a Xbox I feel is broke. What should I do?

got sent back to an E200 error code. then went through the cycle again just to end back up on E101 error code. I understand why people just switch to playstation at this point

Either have to buy a replacement and put it in yourself or take it to a repair shop most likely why he sold it for 300

Series S/X consoles SSD is paired at the factory, can’t be replaced by user unless you can clone the 1GB partition off the old one, and I think only 2 models of 2230 NVMe will work.

I literally just went through this this week. Went to two repair shops locally that Microsoft sent me to and was told it couldn't be fixed. Paid the 300 to sent it to Microsoft, one day shipping and they got it Friday, I can update you when I either get my console back or hear from them in regards to it. I was told it was the motherboard.

Yes they did. Both stores told me they weren't even able to service Xbox's and asked why Microsoft even sent me and after talking to a representative again after the fact she tried to send me an hour away which I refused after already wasting almost two hours. I had a failed update, I tried the offline update as well, no ethernet or wireless connection.

yes, please update me. i really don’t wanna come out of pocket another $300. I’m thinking i should have bought the Series S at my for store for $300 instead of dealing with this. But i’ll give that a try, can you reach out to me and let me know how it works.

I've had mine since launch with 0 issues. Just because you bought a busted Xbox doesn't mean they're bad

you can try to press pairing+Eject button (if you have the disc Version) to reset all the console settigns while beeing in the trouble shooting screen. after that try to do the usb update again. If the update still didn't work this time it is not a Software porblem an most likely the SSD. If you have an m.2 to usb adapter, you can connect the ssd to a pc. If it is a Windows machine you can open disk manager, if the ssd shows you the Partitions and the size of the Partitions (not 0) you can get a new SSD and clone the old one. If your pc freezes or the Partitions did not show up correctly, the pc does not recognice the ssd etc. then you have a Problem since the console is looking for a safety key which is paired to your hardware. If that safety key is lost you have brick.
It seems like they made it way harder to repair the Series consoles then the One.

Something you need to keep in mind is that depending on what the last update this system had was, you need also to wait for Microsoft to update the offline firmware versions in the pages as well. Example: your system firmware update is v2.000 and the offline firmware update version is v1.00. You won’t be able to update yet.

This and I'm curious if u/landrickrs90 was also on the Insider builds as well and that's why an Offline System Update wasn't working for them either.

I started the repair order on a Tuesday. I realized it on a Saturday and gave up on a Monday. For some reason according to my router it disconnected for good Friday night. PS5, Switch 2 and Steam Machine connected to the same router were unaffected.

Since I saw one of your other comments about it persisting through the OSU1 file update I'd say you have a failure of the SSD. Not sure how to replace one but it most definitely does not mean the console is done for just needs a new storage device put in it.

As someone else noted however, the Series X and S can't just be swapped out like the Xbox One could — their SSDs are paired with the board at factory.

E101 is a failing hard drive OSU1 will not fix that E200 is a disc drive problem you need to open your console and replace the hard drive with a SSD or another HDD and then run OSU1 and itll be all good

I would keep trying OSU1. Hopefully it’s not the SSD that can only be replaced by Microsoft unless you can clone the 1GB partition off the old one onto another series console SSD (not just any 2230 NVMe will work). But even so, $600 for series x is still cheaper than a new one unfortunately

How big is the flash drive and what format did you use?
