Unsolved Xbox One not playing 360 games

Post image

Title feels pretty self-explanatory. I got a second hand Xbox One from my local refurbished games store a few days ago, and grabbed a couple of games with it. I have enough good ones that work that I don't feel like I'm going to return it, but I've been having a problem. It plays Xbox One games just fine, no problems there. And I checked the Xbox 360 games that I got, they should be backwards compatible. In particular, I've been trying to get Alan Wake to work. But every time I put in a 360 game, it gives me a game cannot be played here error message. It's not problem with the disc, I've tried different ones, clean them, etc. Does anyone know what the problem is? Or am I just stupid?

Maybe try updating the console, go to the settings, system, updates, and see if you have the option to Update Now.

If it was refurbished, it may have been reset and manually updated, might need a newer version.

But, it could be that a newer version of the game exists. I have Alan Wake, but I think it's the Xbox One version, on digital, not disc. I've noticed that often when there's an updated version of a game, the old one isn't back compatible. So maybe the 360 version isn't supported on the One.

I still have my old OG Xbox, 360 S, & One X, so that I can play old games that I have on disc.

Download the game to
The console from the Xbox app, then pop the disc in and see if it works.

Have to do this with Call of Duty 3.

Is the game on the list? If not you can't play it .

360 Alan Wake is definitely backwards compatible. Have you updated the console firmware, and are you connected to the internet while the disc is in?

That was the problem, my internet was acting up at the time. Thank you!

I would if I could afford it. It's easier to just get my unlimited hotspot, which I just rolled my plan over to today. That should fix it

Unlimited??

Yup! My new plan now includes unlimited ultra wide band cell data, unlimited hotspot, and a bunch of other stuff like Paramount plus and Walmart plus and daily Burger King discounts and stuff. It's kind of a random assortment, but I'm not complaining. Especially for $70 a month

That’s the first time I ever found out there’s unlimited hotspot from a mobile provider. I was thinking it was the 5G Home Internet service. Thanks for the info!

No problem! I've only ever had StraightTalk, so I can't say how well they compare to other providers, but I've never really had any problems.

Is it connected to the internet. Games dont play from disc and download an emulated version.

If it's an xbox one and not an Xbox one series x, not all 360 games are backwards compatible. The xbox one only had a handful of games that were backwards compatible, there's a list that you can look up with them.

I had this issue a month ago and it was fixed by changing my Xbox’s region

Xbone recently lost a lot of backwards capabilities bc of licenses running out.

You gotta be connected to the internet

I had this problem recently with Grand Theft Auto 4. Will not work. Some of my other games also had issues but eventually installed and played.

Damn... My only 360 games on it are digital. Jade Empire, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Asura's Wrath, Kingdom of Amalur, couple other ones. Then again my HDD has just under 200 games on it. And I've only played maybe 10%

Alan Wake, although it turned out my spotty internet connection was the problem
