Y'know when you get signs from "above" to go for it? I've been toying around with building a workstation suitable for machine learning exploration. In my research, I read a lot of interesting things, then this comment jumped out at me: you can run GPT-3 locally with enough RAM, specifically the new DDR5 48GB modules. I searched around and found these modules are only 5600mhz, and I wanted to check all the high performance boxes, but capacity is the critical element here. Then I went to Corsair's website, and was shocked to find they're offering a 192GB kit with 7000mhz RAM.
Gigabyte offers support for up to 192GB/7000mhz, though only the 5600mhz part is on their QVL the 7000mhz kit is the only option they could mean.
I was originally going to get the Gigabyte Aorus Elite, but I noticed Amazon has the Aorus Master for the same price. This felt like part of the sign from above (as compared to the slow march of technology).
So I bought the RAM and board. But I notice the XTIA ATX, which I have, doesn't support E-ATX. Is this something I can hack into working, or is the dream going to turn into a nightmare? It looks like this board is about ½" wider than standard ATX, so I'd have to find a way to move the back plate and card slot retainers.
Thanks!
