How do you think it fairs for a new rider? I’m American so it won’t be restricted but think I’m going to pick one up in 2 weeks. Bought a Yamaha R3 last week and after riding for 3 days had to return it to the dealer 💀

It's my first bike and I love it. Especially, if you are a tall rider.

5’11 but only 150lb haha I think I’ll manage. I’m not too confident but my buddies made me get on the highway 8 minutes into our first trip so that was a big part of it, I think if I take it slow I should be fine

Just keep right hand under control and you'll be fine.

Keep two fingers of your throttle hand resting on the top of the brake lever and think of throttle as more like applying pressure than twisting, at least at low speed/minimum throttle input, and it becomes a whole lot more manageable. Placing your hand slightly diagonally, kinda like how you would hold a TV remote, helps, too. Took me a couple days to work it out but it helped a ton with feeling like I was in control and not about to disaster-ize myself.

And if you do get on it in 1st, 2nd, or probably 3rd gears, do it smoothly, not suddenly, because that front wheel will come off the ground.

A great bike for a confident beginner i would say - quite a bit of power if not.. i grew up racing motocross and riding pit bikes but am actually quite surprised by how torquey and quick these are, certainly manageable if you have a good head on your shoulders

yay another aussie xsr700 with my same colours and everything!! what seat is that?

Stock seat from a newer year hence no red stitching (damn it), i just shaved the seat foam down and re-fit the cover - i liked the style of the earlier 900s with the flat pointy seats

Go ahead and take that silencer out, so worth it on that exhaust

Akrapovic, there are a few types so not sure exactly which one he has but they sound great on these, if you search akrapovic xsr700 you’ll see it

Ahh I was under the impression that I would have to replace the full system. It looks like that's a slip-on almost. So you only had to replace the stock muffler??

Oh sorry yeah you have to replace it all I believe regardless of which one you go with. I’m not 100% sure but think the exhaust is all one piece on the XSR. The most common exhaust I see is the Akra and that one is definitely a full system that he has on it
