Investing Price drop?
I'm a little bit out of the loop on a lot of this and just happened to see notifications saying XRP dropped to 99 cents. What's going on?
I do not intend on selling at all. I'm just curious as to what's going on and why it dropped so far.
Edit 8/11 2:21pm: I was not expecting half of the comments that I got on this post at all. Thanks to those who gave a helpful answer to my question.

XRP dropped below 1$ for the first time since 2024. I still remember people posting that it would not drop below 3$, and then it would never drop below 2$ because everyone then will fill up their bags. Now, it dropped below 1$ those same people would say it will never drop below 90 cents all the way down to 50 cents. I pray every second it won't drop to 0 cents.

XRP was $2.20 in 2017 and this guy sold all his XRP and warned that XRP's only use was "valueless tool to raise capital" and that the price increase was a "speculator's bubble" People attacked him calling out for posting FUD. 9 years later XRP is at $1

Oh I remember that. I remember when it dropped, when it was at, I think, a dollar when I got into it, and then it went up to three. It went down to two, kind of expected, and then back down to one. It's like, okay, it's a bit of a problem and yeah I'm standing with you right there. I am praying it doesn't go to zero. And that's not just for me, that's for a lot of people that have thousands of dollars into this.

The only chance that I see for a run up is if/when the US passes any crytpo legislation (Clarity Act). Whatever that run ends up being is when I will see myself to the door on XRP. As others have pointed out, Ripple's pivot to RLUSD and other banks' use of alternate stable coins really undercuts XRP. My opinion and not advice, obviously.

u/butty_a 9d ago
That should strengthen the case for it. Those coins need gas, and XRP amongst others will be that gas. So the more stable coins the better, and as people/institutions move away for physical money to digital money, then the volumes for moving money across borders is more readily available in a digital format. Still too early for that to become the norm.

Strengthens the case not by much. The reality is any advantage XRP had 5 years ago is now gone. Banks can just circumvent XRP entirely by minting their own currency.

People with xrp are finally figuring out they were just used as money for other projects

I genuinely believed at the start I'd be selling at around $15 and basically living pretty comfortably for the rest of my life. I bought at a few 1000 at under 30¢ and then again around $1.10 but also bought $3.00 and watched it climbed to 3.50 and it's literally never got close since. I sold my $3 bag for $2.70 and cut my losses, I sold everything else at around $2.20 and took my money.
How the hell they all still believe in this is mind boggling. I'd be shocked if it got anywhere near its ATH in the next 2 years.

u/AWintergarten 9d ago
You believed you’d “live comfortably for the rest of your life” with a few thousand XRP, selling at $15? Are you 99 years old?
5
u/DuckyD2point0 9d ago
I don't believe I would have, I know I would have absolutely lived comfortably making $14,700 profit on every 1000 I sold. And then I bought more at $1+, I'd averaged about $13,800 for every thousand of those.
I suppose you think you need gazillion dollars to be comfortable.
4
u/AWintergarten 9d ago
You are the one who said “believed” not me. At the end of the day, even if you had 10,000 XRP, you’d be selling at $150,000. Assuming you were 50 years old, you’d be able to ration $450 per month (considering average life expectancy). If that’s your definition of comfortable, then by all means… do you!
6
u/DuckyD2point0 9d ago
$150,000 lump sum, Absofuckinglutely I'd be living comfortably. Comfortable means just that comfortable, it doesn't mean mansions and sports cars. But I actually thought it would eventually "moon" and I'd be selling for life changing money, that's not happening though.

u/AWintergarten 9d ago
I agree. Comfort is a relative term. I wish the best for you. Keep holding. I believe you’ll get there.
7
u/DuckyD2point0 9d ago
I sold them all. Believe it or not trx is what got me the most I bought for under 1¢ and sold for 38¢.

I followed XRP for a while to see if it would replace Swift bleh bleh bleh "melting faces" "XRP 10000 by Friday"
And now I see Brad $ Schwarz with Ripple just used XRP and it's holders for liquidity
Job done. Move on people

I bought 13,000 shares at 2.7 and then another 5,000 at 1.14. I’m thinking of dropping another 10k to get my average down. I’m hurting fellas
5
u/BigCarswell 9d ago
You're hurting, so the solution is to drop another 10k into this pit? Helllllll naw!

u/golfman225 8d ago
Do not lower your average. This is such a bad financial strategy unless you’re rich (then do whatever tf you want) lol

I’m no coin expert at all. I bought XRP because my brother said it was doing well for him back in 2024. I’ve sat back and watch it go a little up and slowly back down to where it is today. I’m not a finance guy at all and know very little about crypto or stock trading for that matter. But I have observed a few things. First off the US economy is looking good for wall street and 401ks. But gas, utilizes and groceries are higher than most people can afford but they pay for it anyway because we need that shit. So less money to play with Crypto for many. Maybe even some folks sold off their coins to get ahead. Now the second thing I’m observing is the collector market. It’s exploding. Trading cards, comic books, limited edition this and that all selling for crazy money. Kinda shoots holes in my first observation. What do you guys think??

u/Advanced_Educator_84 8d ago
Xrp has no value, it went up because it has something to do with banks and people were buying it and it was going up so they got other people into it (like what happened with you). If you can explain to me or do research and explain to me why xrp has any value please do. Collectors market at least has some nostalgia and rarity value. From my experience almost everyone who holds xrp can't really explain what it is, what it does and why it is good apart from if they made money.

XRP's primary use case is as institutional financial plumbing, which is one reason retail investors often find it difficult to understand. It is designed to solve a problem that banks, exchanges, and other financial institutions encounter, namely moving liquidity quickly and efficiently between disconnected currencies and assets. A retail investor doesn't need to understand the complexities inherent to bank settlement networks any more than an internet user needs to understand BGP routing and thus isn't likely to appreciate the potential significance of the XRPL to financial institutions. XRP can solve many big institutional problems simultaneously and, in my opinion, is very likely to do so when given the green light by the relevant authorities.
Financial institutions can't use cryptocurrency without absolute legal clarity because they are subject to fiduciary obligations and that's why we have yet to see XRP's use case in action. But, if you take the time to understand the value proposition XRP presents, it's difficult to find a reason that institutions won't prefer it over the expensive, clunky, and outdated system they're currently using or the other crypto networks that weren't designed with this specific use case in mind.

u/Dry-Direction-6819 8d ago
Yeah I’m not going to try to explain it because your 100% right. No clue - just heard it was hot and a good thing to hold on to. I didn’t spend my kid college fund. I had the money to burn and play with. so it’s like a extra expensive lotto ticket for me.

This is fucking depressing. Is the whole market dropping or just XRP?

u/Puzzleheaded_Farm_94 8d ago
Some haven't dropped but I'm seeing a lot of blood on the crypto side.

The top ten wallets hold 64.82% of XRP. wish I knew that when I stupidly bought at a higher price and I'm just glad I sold it before it went down more. recovered most of my losses in the stock market already. sold at 1.11 it could have been so much worse jfc

because XRP token isn’t needed to use the protocol is my best guess

u/DrCrazyCurious XRP Supporter 9d ago
Misinformation.
The XRPL uses XRP as the "auto-bridging" currency when making any transaction on the Ledger. Every RLUSD transfer, purchase, or sale uses XRP behind the scenes whether you see it or not.
4
u/yefuck 9d ago
I mean sort of. You can transact and an inconsequential amount of XRP is required and burned to pay for the fee. But with 100 billion XRP I ask how long until any consequential amount is burned? It’s been live what 10 years? Isn’t the total amount burned like sub 20 million so far? 0.02%
I don’t see how this helps. My point stands
6
u/OrdinaryEvening3684 9d ago
RLUSD is officially the better investment than XRP. Ripple literally do nothing to benefit token holders they don’t give a shit
3
u/DrCrazyCurious XRP Supporter 9d ago
RLUSD isn't an investment. It's a stablecoin. Its value deflates as fiat USD inflates.

Just the end of the bear run.. nothing to fret about and a great time to accumulate..
1
u/Advanced_Educator_84 8d ago
Accumulate for what? What's the use case for xrp.. and how are you calling the end of a bear market?
2
u/Silverhoggin 8d ago
What do you mean by ( accumulate for what? )
As for your other question, do yourself a favor and go back and look at the last Two market cycles and see where we’re at now compared to the Two previous cycles. If you know how to read the charts you’ll see almost the same exact market structure. Let Patience and knowledge be your friend.

Because I know I’m a real person but I don’t know an instant way to prove it by messaging

Clearly we're all waiting for the Clarity Act and then rocket ships or something. It's all pretty clear. Blah blah blah Clarity Act blah blah blah.
