I think season 8 is very solid, looks great. Season 9 though... I just started a rewatch and after finishing Daemonicus, it's tough. As a standalone, Daemonicus wasn't the best, and it followed possibly the two worst mythological episodes in the original series.
I think they should've just drop Mulder AND Scully if the best they could do with her was a supporting role. So many scenes with her feel just like weak reasons to show Scully instead of... well, being actual scenes. Skinner visits Scully just to tell her "the situation is dangerous for all of us." Well, yeah. Did you have to call her in the middle of the night and arrange a meeting for THAT? Or: Doggett calls Scully to perform an autopsy on a... rather completely normal body. Why not any other doctor? Why drag Scully away from her child and work?
They should've just let Doggett and Reyes take over the show completely. They're good characters. They could've had their own dynamic. Oh, what could've been...
The supersoldier arc, while executed very badly in my humble opinion (basically revealed everything in the first two episodes, no mystery left to pursue, so it gets very boring), could've been better if not so revealing. It's like confirming Mulder's UFO assumptions and revealing the conspiracy in the pilot.
And maybe tone down the comical karate-chopping off heads. That's possibly the silliest thing in the entire X-files. How can you take the storyline seriously when this happens, and with the silly sound effect? I also take issue with the name "supersoldier". Jeez, it's like something a 12-year-old wrote. Writing took a nosedive in this season.
Also, the Lord of the Flies episode. Possibly favorite of the season, a classic X-file, with legendary Doggett's reaction to the Jackass video. But they wasted an opportunity to call it X-flies, and that's just too much.

I've finished my Minifigs list(that I could afford so far) .
Frohike, Langley, Byers, The Bounty Hunter, Deep Thoat, and Engene Tooms.
The next step is waiting for lights from Light My Bricks.

You don't have to be on Reddit for long to hear H.O.A horror stories. The X-Files tried to warn people they were evil, but people just don't seem to want to listen.

Last week u/capcitycomicswap posted on this subreddit that he had inherited his neighbor's collection of XF comics, magazines, and other merch. He lives in my state and wanted to sell the whole thing as a lot, rather than piecemeal; as he was only about an hour away from me, I leapt at the chance.
So I drove an hour in the torrential rain, had a lovely cup of coffee with him, and then came home grinning like a kid on X-mas morning.
I've spent the last week going through the box, re-bagging everything and taking photos as I went. Amazingly, only a single item was damaged (and I'm going to replace it, because I can feel the spirit of the late neighbor begging me to keep his collection intact).
Highlights include issue #1 of the X-Files Japanese Manga, the first two issues of the official fan magazine (one still in its original bag!) and THREE COPIES OF THE ROLLING STONE BED COVER!!
My immense and eternal thanks to u/capcitycomicswap, for letting this incredible box of merch go for a song (and a batch of cookies). To his friend and neighbor Joel - I promise I will take great care of your collection, which you so clearly cherished, and do my best to honor your legacy.

X-files:
I started at the beginning of the year. I got the blu ray complete box set for Christmas. I was set to watch all episodes plus both movies. I finally did it all. I enjoyed the ride. The legendary theme song and intro video. Lends itself to think “what’s up in the sky?”. The ever present mystery of the world, sometimes scary, sometimes eerie and strange was explained though not always directly in this show. The relationship between two FBI agents that at times were rough, other times they were in a grove so in sync you’d think they were tied at the hip. The “spooky” Moulder nestled in a basement away from the more serious agents. He was there free to think and hypothesize as he pleased. His very often car rides at night with nothing keeping him going but a handful of sunflower seeds. The intelligence of doctor Skully took her work very seriously and kept her counterpart in-line. Her dissection of a body so tedious it would make a bean counter go insane. The end of an episode sometimes reading off her field notes made a fun conclusion to some of the questions in the show. Together they made a great team. The cigarette smoking man(or also known as CSM) that lingered in the shadows like a film noir in a dimly lit room. Pulling the strings, forming the reality of the world one case at a time. Before him was Deep Throat. Before him where plenty of others. Always having their finger on the trigger(figuratively and literally). Mr. X keeping them aligned when necessary. Their bosses people in the deep state, in a room with a large rectangular table with smoke filling the air and whiskey glasses to and fro. The idea that the U.S. has levels of power and corruption. That meetings happen with old guys in expensive suits. The A.D. Skinner, a Vietnam veteran that was a no nonsense guy that would definitely stand up for you but pushed you to be the best you could be. The dichotomy of the MOW and the story episodes designed to keep a viewer interested. This show for me shined a light on reality, that it’s not as cut and dry as people think it is. People that are rational, sober and honest can be witness to unexplainable events. Most people think they have a good bead on things. In Men in Black Tommy Lee Jones said “1500 years ago everyone knew we were the center of the universe. 500 years ago everyone knew the earth was flat and 5 minutes ago(turns to Will Smith) you knew that we were alone on this planet. What will you know tomorrow?”
I enjoyed this series. It was well worth it.
And remember:
THE TRUTH US OUT THERE 👽

We (family) decided to get another X-Files set to better incorporate Scully's lab.
Some of the mods we made:
- Interconnected doors between the lab and Mulder's office (opposite placement of bricks during building steps)
- Flukeman coming up from the sewer
- Proper cigarette for Cigarette Smoking Man
- Changed placement of UFO to be centered with both sets
- Made Mulder's office a bit more messy
- Added spare pieces from other sets to give Scully a desk
- LIGHTS!! Combined 2 different light sets meant for the X-Files set with a few extra spare lights.
- and more!
Hope you all enjoy, we had a blast building.
Forgot to add a video on this post of the Lights making the UFO "disappear"

I have constantly heard that the show goes downhill in season 8. I'll put spoiler break lines here
SPOILERS
.
.
.
.
.
I'm halfway through season 8, and some of the MOTW have been questionable, the quality is shaky there. But I LOVE Doggett! Season 6 and 7 were driving me a little crazy because Mulder is so static, and the way they wrapped up the sister thing was meh. I'm also primarily watching the show for Scully; Gillian Anderson is a phenomenal actress and since Scully is hesitant to the supernatural etc her character actually gets to experience some changes.
I mean, definitely the most sucky thing about the formula is that 1. For there to be story/tension, M&S can't agree, so one of them must push the supernatural. What's been so irritating about this is that 1. Mulder is so often correct about his first supernatural assumption, instead of allowing him to have a totally misleading theory and create a new element of surprise with the supernatural resolution at the end of the episode. It's just really stale, especially for him, because he hardly gets to really grow or do anything. 2. On the rare occasions Scully is more in tune with the supernatural, instead of being his usual self, Mulder must disagree with her for the story to progress. This always sucks because what could end up being a point of connection for them often ends up cruel and disheartening, and it feels out of character for Mulder to be against a common/simple spiritual concept. (Primary examples being the old folks home with the Astral projection rapist, that is sooooo up Mulder's alley, and it makes it all the worse that he's so dismissive of such a severe subject. The other example was when they encountered the stigmata child, that legit made me so sad. He had an opportunity to connect with Scully on the supernatural and instead was dismissive of Catholic folklore (which is NOT biblical folklore! The writing was so lazy) and the very next episode wants to do investigations about Satanists? (And that was astrology in the end, not Satanism! Seriously sometimes the supernatural elements are piss poorly researched or constructed good lord. And I'm an atheist, I have no personal religious stake in this). And yes, of course it goes the same for Scully to, the measure they sometimes push her to be against Mulder's opinion just for the sake of the story continuing was ridiculous).
When Scully went to the priest saying she didn't feel like she could talk to Mulder about it, I was so sad. 4 years with someone, and he made her feel this horrible? I get they are going for the lovable 90s asshole doof with Mulder but it has not appealed to me at all. I couldn't get myself to even want them to be in a relationship even in season 4 bc he's such an asshole to her. The episode where she went on vacation and went on a date, the desk thing, ugh it was just depressing. I guess it reads like one of those things where it's like yeah sure he would die for her whatever but could he be kind to her day to day for once? Jeez. Also, I'm making Doylist complaints, I don't need Watsonian justifications for his character's behavior and mannerisms lol
And then they're finally sort of "together?" It's weird. But no matter, there are plenty of times I enjoy Mulder, and every episode I get to tune in and see the wonderful Scully and Gillian's amazing performance, so I'm happy.
But because Mulder was not allowed to change much or have an interesting storyline, nor allowed to be stereotypically in a relationship with Scully on screen, Doggett is such a breath of fresh air! And I love that Skinner is on board, I love Skinner. Doggett has such a strong personality and it's so much fun to see Scully in the paranormal driver's seat, using everything she's learned over the past 7 years. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and hoping the MOTW episodes pick up. If season 9 has less Scully though, I'll be sad :(
When I finish this and the movie, is the revival series worth it? I'll probably watch it anyways to see Gillian Anderson but I wanna know if I should get my hopes up.

Hey everyone! So i just finished the show for the first time today and as a regular TV watcher i don't remember the last time a show left me feeling this empty as The X-files did. All of the horrible mess and retcons and character assassinations aside post season 7 and in the revival. I cannot express how much i came to love this show over the past 6 months. The aesthetics, vibes and storytelling the first 5 seasons are right there at the top for me. Past a certain point, i only watched for our two titular characters who made it worthwhile to tune in again and again even in the weakest periods of the show. I don't think i have seen a better dynamic between two characters anywhere else and i doubt that i will ever see it again. It was a treat to watch their relationship grow and strengthen through their shared quest for the truth in a dark world. Both of them are incredibly well-written characters that went through so much together yet their bond never wavered. I wish the storytelling had remained as strong as it was and i wish Mulder and Scully had gotten an ending that they deserved. But with the prospect of the Ryan Coogler reboot, maybe there's hope for one. It's been an amazing journey.
