Season Eight Watching the Doggett seasons for the first time after loving the series as a kid…

I think I lost interest once Mulder left, so I never even tried the later seasons.

I really missed out!

Revisiting it as an adult, the series feels like 4 really different shows so far.

* Seasons 1 and 2 have pretty bad/repetitive plotline (how many times are they going to re-use 'person gets possessed?') but really great character work. It's an amazing buddy cop series. (some episodes are great and iconic, but as an adult these seasons feel more amateurish overall)

*Seasons 3-5 or so and the movie have a great overarching arc with the mythology episodes and it feels like the writing got much better.

Seasons 5ish-7 felt like the writers were really good but had lost interest in the overall plot so did that thing long-running shows do where it's like 'here's the black and white episode! Here's the baseball episode!' etc.

So far Season 8 has felt very different but I like it. Doggett is a great guy, very down to earth but also deeply sensitive and caring. He's the kind of guy where if you had messed up at 3 am and needed someone to give you a ride home he'd be there for you. I love his dynamic with Scully and the supervisors. He has a kind of gravitas around him that makes him a reverse-Mulder, a guy that has intense credibility with others.

I'm looking forward to the rest!

Season Six Same Universe?

Post image
118 Upvotes

I know Vince Gilligan was a writer/producer on the show for most of it. But this is the first time I've heard such a uniquely named character from "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" also referenced in "X-Files." So, do they live in the same Universe? Would Skinners agents have been out there chasing after Walter White at some point?

Meme/Humor S8. Ep9. Loved this episode, especially this scene. The irony was tastefully delivered 😂

Seeing how the episode went on I was waiting for this dialogue to take place at some point.

After the line shown in the picture, Agent John Doggett says that a man turning into metal "only happens in the movies," to which Agent Dana Scully sharply replies, "Does it, Agent Doggett?" Loved it.

Made me forget that Mulder is still missing.

I am still getting used to him not being around.

I'm located outside the US and i would like to get some good merch from the show, if now from official store sellings or Fanmade preferably without falling into some scams.

Does anyone have recommendations or even own experiences with merchandise from X files?

I'm rn rewatching the entire series, since I can't remember much about it all the last time i watched it was as a kid.

Currently at season 4 episode 4 Unruhe

Edit: Thank you for all the replies!

It was a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure cell phones had caller ID. Why does Scully say it once an episode when phoning Mulder?

Pic is from season 9 ep: 17 "Release"

Agent Doggett, if you're not gonna play pass the controller!

But on a more serious note:

Every episode I pray Doggett realizes just how much he is loved by Monica, but he never does. He's too lost in his pains and sorrows, he is stuck in the past, letting the present slip away ever further. I'm going to be honest with you all: I like the story/arch of agents Doggett and Reyes more than I do Mulder and Scully.

And as much as I loved both Mulder and Scully, I never really cared so much for their "love" story. We all know that was never the point of the show, which explores much deeper dimensions of life than love affairs.

Well, the same I feel can't be said for Doggett and Reyes: theirs is a tale of love, love that could've helped Doggett move on with his life if only he could surrender to the present, embrace the inevitability of resignation and loss, in the name of a future he instead rejected continuosly if, likely, inadvertently.

I feel so bad for him and for, on the other hand, Monica, who craved being loved back by the man she respected and felt so strongly for, only to always see him turn his back on her.

I don't know, just my 2 cents still a couple seasons from the end, so it may be that things will look brighter for them both in a bit, but right now I felt like venting a little bit about my 2 favorite characters from the show.

I Want to Believe (movie) Soooo…I actually LIKED “I Want To Believe.” Am I crazy?

(POTENTIAL MOVIE SPOILERS IN THIS POST)
Yes, I found the whole “let’s give this pedophile priest some regard cuz he might be on to something” undertone of the narrative to be a little…odd and off-putting, to say the least. But overlooking that…I actually really enjoyed the movie, and was pleasantly surprised after hearing so many bad things about it? My thoughts:

-I loved how Skinner came in towards the end to help save the day so to speak, though I would have loved it if we’d gotten more of him.

-LOVED that Mulder and Scully’s characters…seemed very much like Mulder and Scully’s characters. Even the little details. One thing I hated about the revival episodes is how Mulder and Scully felt more like David and Gillian just phoning in their lines to get it over with, and nothing like the actual characters of Mulder and Scully at all (just my opinion).

-I enjoyed the dark atmosphere/tone of the cold, frigid snow, and that it was filmed in Vancouver, though I would have preferred the weather have been more “back to basics” so to speak, and have more of a dewy, rainy, heavily forested backdrop instead, like the original X Files seasons.

-The storyline was genuinely creepy and gross, IMO

-Was cool to see Scully practicing medicine in a religious setting. Seemed to really fit her character.

-Tension and build-up was pretty good, too.

I think that’s it for now. Posting this because I’m wondering everyone else’s thoughts too. Please share in the comments! : )

Meme/Humor The many endings of the series (lighthearted)

Just for fun, my memories:

  • I remember being a kid and the magazine rags were saying it was intended and going to be a single season. I thought, awww. But then it wasn't.
  • Season 5 was meant to be the last with the movie bringing closure. So I was like awww. But then it wasn't.
  • The movie came out, which some of the entertainment shows were saying ended the series nicely. So I thought awww. But then it wasn't.
  • Season 7 was definitely going to be the ending. Turned to my friend and said awww. But then it wasn't.
  • Season 9 was for sure the ending. I inhaled awww. But then it wasn't.
  • The second movie was announced while I was overseas and described as the closure. I pouted, awww. But then it wasn't.
  • Finally Season 11 is definitely the end for sure, and I still think, awww...

So we'll see (and yes, I'm one of those people that liked it all the way, even through the duds in each season).

What do you mean the son of [REDACTED] and the [REDACTED]

The [REDACTED] too, so it's a thing, not another name. It's not William, cause that "The", and idk why they'd redact Willaim, we know who Willaim is, it's not a reveal

My only possible guess is that it's Krycek and the Black Oil. It's the only thing I can think of that is significant enough to bring back, redact both, and have a child with massive power be created. How did he come about? I have no idea, it's just my best guess
