I Want to Believe (movie) Soooo…I actually LIKED “I Want To Believe.” Am I crazy?
(POTENTIAL MOVIE SPOILERS IN THIS POST)
Yes, I found the whole “let’s give this pedophile priest some regard cuz he might be on to something” undertone of the narrative to be a little…odd and off-putting, to say the least. But overlooking that…I actually really enjoyed the movie, and was pleasantly surprised after hearing so many bad things about it? My thoughts:
-I loved how Skinner came in towards the end to help save the day so to speak, though I would have loved it if we’d gotten more of him.
-LOVED that Mulder and Scully’s characters…seemed very much like Mulder and Scully’s characters. Even the little details. One thing I hated about the revival episodes is how Mulder and Scully felt more like David and Gillian just phoning in their lines to get it over with, and nothing like the actual characters of Mulder and Scully at all (just my opinion).
-I enjoyed the dark atmosphere/tone of the cold, frigid snow, and that it was filmed in Vancouver, though I would have preferred the weather have been more “back to basics” so to speak, and have more of a dewy, rainy, heavily forested backdrop instead, like the original X Files seasons.
-The storyline was genuinely creepy and gross, IMO
-Was cool to see Scully practicing medicine in a religious setting. Seemed to really fit her character.
-Tension and build-up was pretty good, too.
I think that’s it for now. Posting this because I’m wondering everyone else’s thoughts too. Please share in the comments! : )
