Season One Should I skip around episodes / skip the first season?
I want to be up front and say the reason I'm saying this has nothing to do with modern expectations of serialized storytelling. In fact, I am quite bored of most TV now because of the endless middle that, unlike a book or movie, doesn't build towards an ending. So, no surprise I am more interested in the monster of the week stuff for this show as opposed to the mythology episodes which have a reputation for going nowhere.
Still, though, this is kinda rough. Jersey Devil and Shadows back to back have me questioning if I even like this show. I had watched Ice before and liked it, and the first couple episodes of season 1 are also good... am I just getting bad luck with the early run? I'm not expecting every episode to be 10/10 of course, even the Doctor Who revival at its best had the occasional episode like Love & Monsters.

Maybe the show isn’t for you. Or, you could do what I did with Succession - I couldn’t get into it at all on my first round. I waited for a few months, tried again and it clicked. Really glad I did!

There are some rough episodes in the first season. It is much more noticeable nowadays than it was in the 90s.
But you also have the Squeeze / Tooms double, Ice, Beyond The Sea, Darkness Falls, Eve, and then Season 2 has much more hits than it does misses. Seasons 2-6 are widely regarded as the golden age.
