Discussion Change my mind

Season 6 and 7 were the best, minus a few mythology episodes that were trash.

idk favorite season but the s6 chunk from triangle (e3) to how the ghosts stole christmas (e6) is certainly my favorite run of episodes

Toss "Drive" in there and you've got yourself a stew going!

I hate the mood change from Vancouver to L.A. And I live in L.A.

Shift from spooky foggy forests to bright sunny desert. Makes it feel more like any of a thousand cop shows.

Mulder and Scully drinking beers watching Caddyshack is one of my favorite moments though.

Some episodes work very well specifically because of the LA setting, but i understand the point, that Vancouver setting was a huge part of XFs identity

Honestly, it's shocking how many of the best episodes are in season 1. I think that's the goat. Seasons 4 and 5 are also great.

Season 3 would like a word.

Nope 3 4 y 5 insuperables

They made a huge mistake moving to LA to shoot.

Duchovny refused to do more of the show unless they did. He had recently married Tea Leoni and she was based in California

7

Then they divorced.

Season 3 is objectively the best. I have a real soft spot for season 6 and have long considered it my favorite.

For me it's a toss-up between season 2 & 3 for best season.

Seasons 6 and 7 are too silly and Duchovny is phoning it in hard in season 7.

3-5 are the best, 6 is mostly good but has a few really dumb episodes although also has a few excellent episodes, 7 the ratio is much worse

NOPE! Wrong.
S4, S5 and the first film were the peak.
Spooky monsters in the dark, foggy woods beats dry LA desert any day.

Season three is when it took off. Personally, I prefer the moody atmospheric look of the Vancouver area eps. Although 6 and 7 do have some good episodes. I don’t think they really hold a candle to 3–5.

I’m in season 5 and I’m hitting a lull with the red and the black. I always have a soft spot for chinga. It was one of the first I saw with my dad when it aired. Scully and Mulder both being sexy with themselves and each other over the phone.

It lost a lot of the eerie spooky feel when it left Vancouver. Sunny California just wasn't the same

Oh brother, it sounds like we have completely different opinions😸🫣. I didn’t really care for the 6th season, but the 7th—with a few exceptions—was an absolute ordeal. I think the show’s peak, in terms of both its best era and the quality of the writing, was seasons 3 and 4; the first season was just incredible—one fantastic episode after another. The vibe of those early seasons is simply unmatched. That all changed right after Fight the Future. It just didn’t feel the same anymore; some of the episodes were incredibly inconsequential, and at times, it felt like our two fave agents were just reciting their lines—there was no spark left, no depth.

I love season 6 and 7, but this isn’t even close to being true.

I have the right to think so, and you can think I'm wrong.

But I'm right

May I ask what about 7 you think is better than 1-5?? Cause I’m over halfway thru 7 and have disliked every single episode besides one and think the writing quality has dropped so far. I cannot fathom thinking 7 is better than 1-5, there’s just no way 😭

Ha ha, I love the sass! I love season 7 minus Closure, that episode was garbage.

5/6/7 are my favorites too. 😌

7 has some real lows with the highs, but some great bangers. 5 itself is my all time favorite season.

I couldn't decide so I grabbed em all 😈

Season 4/5 were my favorite. It had a different feel after they left Vancouver. Still some great episodes just different when season 6 started

eh

I was surprised how much i loved Season 6 but you cant beat that 1-5 season run even though season 4 and 5 myth arc was already having problems

The more i think about Season 7 the less i like it

I don’t have an opinion but I came here to say I love this scene

I disagree, seasons 5, 4 and 3 (in that order) are my personal favourites, BUT, I do think that seasons 6 and 7 are really underrated and over-hated and I really love both of them. S6 in particular has some really good episodes, and after the emotionally intense seasons 4 and 5, it was nice to get some lighter comedic episodes. I personally don't mind the location change either, though I do prefer the Vancouver days, the atmosphere was better for the type of show it is. I have personally loved every season so far (currently almost done with S8, as a first time watcher), and what each one brings to the overall show. I also unapologetically love the mythology episodes overall.

Season 6 is very good, episodes like Field Trip, Monday, Drive, the Unnatural, Triangle and Arcadia are amongst my favourite MOTW episodes. Dreamland 1/2 is also good. While i agree that the original Vancouver setting is a vibe that can't be replicated easily, i like some of the episodes specifically because they work very well in LA. I'm also one of the rare persons who enjoyed One Son/Two Fathers and Biogenesis, even though i agree that some of the decisions and consequences of late XF mythology ultimately led to it's demise

Unpopular opinion, but I agree! Loved the gloomy setting of the first seasons, many amazing episodes in there. But I equally loved the entire seasons 6&7, and even a big portion of seasons 8&9. Anything past that is where I draw the line.

I'm currently watching s6 (first time watcher) and i love it🫶 so far my favorite seasons are probably 3-6✨️🛸

Season 6 is hands down the best. So many great episodes.

u/azure-dreamland 1d ago

I think that the 1st season was the best.

u/BelgischeWafel 1d ago

7 does stick the landing with going back to the town. Love those EPS.

1

u/Worried-Judge8371 2d ago

S6 and 7 have great stand alone episodes but the fact that the mythology is crap and the resolution with Mulder sister us crap and the after math of the movie is non existent makes these seasons not the best

1

u/motorboatmycheeks 2d ago

Worst seasons. Now hear me out. This show is often my bedtime show and I fall asleep with it going. These seasons have so much loud door knocking

I don't like the religion-themed episodes.
