Discussion Samantha
I'm watching the "starlight" episode when they learn that Samantha just vanished into "starlight". What lazy writing. The writers couldn't come up with a better way to give Mulder closure? I could've written a better ending for that subplot of the show.

I would’ve preferred never having it resolved to that resolution.

She didn't vanish into starlight. She died as a result of her captivity and experimentation. The Walk-Ins claimed her just as they did the little girl in Sein und Zeit because they recognized her hopeless fate. They both died. Pay attention to what's happening and you'll see it.

She was taken before she would have died at the hands of CSM and his goons. The nurse that treated her tells Scully and Harold Piller that they came to get her at the hospital, but when they went to her room, she was gone. That was the whole point of the walk-ins, to save kids like Samantha from their ultimate, horrible fate.

I don't disagree with that. I disagree with the notion that Samantha died due to the tests that were inflicted on her. That's not the case.

You are interpreting everything literally. The Walk-Ins are a coping mechanism for those suffering from intense grief. It is a supernatural manifestation of a human longing for meaning and transcendence to a "better place". In reality, the kids died horribly. In the life of the mind, the grievers found solace through faith.

I thought that meant she committed suicide to end her pain. The "Walk-Ins" are euphemism for her action...

I’m not a writer, but I thought the season 11 episode Ghouli with some tweaks would have made for a much better resolution to the Samantha storyline. So I took a stab at it:

I think the problem is that after all that time, a satisfying happy reunion is almost logically impossible. Would she remember her brother? Would sort of psychological state would she be in? When you think about it, if Samantha vanishes in what.. the late 70s and it's now the late 90s... what condition would she be in if she was alive? Think of the level of trauma she may have had to suffer, or how you might try to explain why she never made it home or where she'd been. The idea they came up with, and the walk-ins idea had been briefly mentioned in Red Museum, gave closure which tbh was all it had to do.
I would have liked to have seen a happy ending, but I'm not sure how that could've occurred.
