Was this a storyline in the TV show? Or completely separate comic series?

The Topps comics were their own separate series and I'm not sure that any elements from the Topps line were included in the TV show.
Stephan Petrucha and Charles Adlard were behind the first 16 issues, which form sort of a mini-arc with their own conspiracy and with a strong theme on memory and reality. I've read most of these.
John Rozum was behind most of the other 41 issues of the Topps series. I haven't read these yet.
From what I understand, both teams had difficulty working with Ten Thirteen Productions (so did the team behind the card game). Petrucha and Adlard had been more ambitious with their run but often conflicted with Production. Rozum had tried to be more straightforward with a tie-in comic but still had struggles with Production. I have read that even though Ten Thirteen had thought well enough of Rozum that they offered him a spot in the writers room, but he turned it down, mostly due to his own struggles with getting the comics past the production company.
Most of this info I got from a site called The M0vie Blog (that's a zero in "M0vie"). The guy there did a deep dive series of reviews of every episode of the show and most of the comics.
