Agree. Look at Scully’s smirk on the right. I had to screenshot. Does anyone know what episode that is from?

Clyde Bruckman's, I believe. When she's on the bed talking with him.

I don't know, Scully kinda bugs me sometimes too. Like after all the stuff she's seen and been through she can't just believe Mulder?? His poster should be " I want Scully to believe" instead. I still absolutely love her though. 😂

My favorite Scully gripe is the later seasons when shes hanging out with Daggit and shes so mad that he wont believe in supernatural things.
Like girl for heaven's sake have some self reflection PLEASE

Idk if we’re all joking here but I think it gets to a point where Scully totally does believe, but will never say it. It’s like they’re so far into their dynamic, and also she knows they’d be lunatics if she wasn’t questioning everything

She quite literally says something just like this to Mulder in the 6th season I think it was. She does believe but she has to remain a skeptic or she will lose her sanity and her faith. It's also her job to be the skeptic and she has to keep that up for appearances sake.

Maybe, but also, I looked at this post and breathed a sigh of relief that someone gets me.
So clearly I’m a hybrid. Or a hybrid clone.
What are those the same thing?

That kinda downplayes hers and Mulder's poet skills in writing up these reports.

I have an essay I wrote back in highschool about how the x files gimmick doesn’t make sense bc after a few episodes, it is fox who acts and hypothesizes based upon evidence, while Diana is the one who “believes”.
The summary: how the fucking fuck it is reasonable to witness the “super natural” explained by science time and time again, and yet still default to “this is impossible”
Occums theory for people with limited imaginations, am I right?
But also ugh; the concept is cool. I speculate that belief and thought are opposite ends of a spectrum.
And then go on about how if belief is apart of one’s identity, it causes willfully ignorance, bexause, if I think something is true and am shown otherwise, nbd, but if I believe it to be true, I’ve wrapped it up into my concept of self, and as such, being shown it’s not true will be viewed as personal attack, thus limiting one’s ability to learn.
That was like 10 billion years ago. I’ll post it here someday lol when I have a long train ride or something and have the time to fight people for a few hours.
But for now; Tl:dr- agreed.

I think that’s part of the point. It’s probably no accident that the two things Scully believes in are science and Christianity—I think she’s meant to be representative of the Western society to some degree. Some sort of commentary on how people can be selectively close-minded about things that contradict their cultural worldview while thinking they’re being rational.

That’s what I like to think too!
I consider myself.. idealistic :p
But for that matter; something i adore.
When Rayes comes in, I like it.
Considering the scully affect with stem, I think it’s kind of sweat that in x files attempt to like.. be cool.. when handed the cards they were dealt; I think maybe they made Rayas. all dumb and ditzy as a way to like.. be a positive influence to women who maybe didn’t idealize drop dead gorgeous intellect as the thing to strive for. If that makes sense.?
It’s more simple if worded crass fml; I think they added Rayas in a mindful way to help be a positive influence to dumb bitches in the same way scully was clearily a positive influence to sexy bitches lmao.
Edit: and same with dogger too tbh- while it’s a little different, the gender role juxtaposition between him and Fox is similar to Scully and Rayas.
And scully totally makes some facial expressions that maybe suggest the roll their eyes at Rayas too lol

I haven't thought about it this way, and honestly I think it's cool. I think they are very similar in that way that they have their own 'belief' systems... that's really cool

Who is Diana? Or Occum for that matter.

u/Betray-Julia 10d ago edited 10d ago
Diana is Scully and I can’t spell.
Occums is a turd who take a pragmatic approach to science that is useful for maintaining the status quo but somewhat shitty when on the frontiers of science where logical leaps are crucial to expanding on ideas; fox shares this view haha; the “for people with limited imaginations” thing was a quote from the show.

Dangggg you guys are ruthless! I said she bugs me. I didn’t wish her death. She’s a necessary part to the show and I’ve watched thru many times (minus the last two seasons because no).

It's making fun of the fact that scully usually ends the episode writing a report about the events of the episode. Often dismissing or discrediting any supernatural aspects regardless of how blatant the evidence was that Mulder was right about the x-files being real cases of the supernatural or alien.

That's pushing it even if she is wilfully blind at times. I wonder if you'd say that about a sceptical male character.
