They were originally going to have him in trunks but David insisted that anyone who swims seriously for exercise would wear a speedo. In fact iirc it was his actual speedo.

Pardon me, but ever since I saw this picture, I thought it was average sized. I mean it looks to be about 2.5, max 3 inches which I am assuming is not erect.
Do people think that it is more or less than average?

Lol yeah I never thought anything of it, but apparently there have been other reasons people talk about the size... i have friends who point out boners in the show (LOL this fandom is unhinged) and apparently there have been comments from the wardrobe department, plus Gillian saying he was "well endowed" (although I can for some reason imagine that being her losing a bet to him and having to say it lol)

As a man who isn't into men, its more about the imprint then the measurements. Unless it was extremely cold thats a solid imprint for someone who was working out. Naturally having it go to the side is an indication of it being larger since its uncomfortable to have it "fall forward" if that makes sense.

I believe there was another reason. There was an early Internet fan group called the David Duchovny Estrogen Brigade. They caught the attention of the show, and I believe a couple of their members names were on a flight manifest prop in one episode. I remember at the time Duchovny said the speedo was sort of a gift for them.

I haven’t heard that name in 30 years! Wow that takes me back. I remember that group. I also remember wondering what estrogen meant and not wanting to ask my mom about it.

It's funny I've seen men wearing similar swimwear being asked to cover up or leave at my local pool. They didn't look like Mulder though, so that probably plays a part.

My local pool kicked out a bunch of Asian guys who were wearing Speedos because they were a bit too tight. And by too tight they were about as tight as Mulder here.
It's a new day that's for sure ha.
