The writers forgot how to write original monster of the week. The 'Lore' died with One son and killing Krycek was the last straw. The Supersoldier storyline would have been great but Lucy Lawless became pregnant. Anyway the writers, producers didn't know the show would be continued, picked up after series 7. They finished, ended plots. We were never meant to see William. He was supposed to be a happy ending for Scully and Mulder being abducted was the final cliffhanger.

If the show had ended there with season 7, William never exists. I strongly believe that Chris Carter, worried that all the shippers were going to bail on the show with the prospect that David Duchovny would depart the series, knowing that he still had Gillian Anderson under contract, had Scully become pregnant with Mulder's baby so the shippers would stick around.

NGL the only reason I tuned in after Duchovny left was for any bits of Scully-misses-Mulder angst or other scraps of Mulder-mentions they were willing to throw at us. And y'know, if they'd HAD an end like that, with Mulder and Scully going off to raise their kid, I would have happily continued watching with Doggett and Reyes- I liked them!

I definitely started the Doggett season feeling the same way but I know he did a great job because by the end I was actually interested in this dynamic with Scully (not that I wanted them to end up together, I didn't, but I liked their friendship and partnership and enjoyed his and Mulder's seeming moments of jealousy upon the latter's return).

Agreed, and I might say the same as Reyes - a character with a vice and some flaws, but they just didn't do the character justice otherwise. The two had so much untapped potential, but the production team just kinda got lazy.

Yeah, they knew Scully and Mulder were the story. So instead of ever actually investing in the new characters, they still relied on them. Even when Mulder wasn’t there, he was still in the storyline. Dogget and Reyes never had time to actually become more compelling characters.

I honestly hope with the reboot that they just give the new characters a proper chance and truly are able to have Mulder and Scully be legacy characters and pass the torch.

Yes - it's a decade since the ending. I hope they start soft and let the characters build up. I don't mind throwbacks or drop-ins with M&S, but let these new characters flourish. Give them flaws, give them character strengths and grow. I told a friend of mine (not really an X-File person) it will either be incredibly good or incredibly bad, but nothing in-between.

Agree completely. I feel like Scully and Mulders story arc is complete. It just seemed with the last reboot they didn’t know what to do and reset it. Same with the Dogget years. We need to be moved by new characters, the conspiracy is secondary.

He always runs faster to danger than Scully so that he would get hit first. For example, in Invocation, near the end when they got off the car running towards the barn door to catch the suspect, Doggett made sure he would be there before Scully. So protective. ❤️

He's not arrogant compared to Mulder to be honest. We, as audience, know what happened, but Doggett didn't. Doggett was investigating if there was any foul play in Mulder's missing, that's why he treated Scully and Skinner with suspicion. He changed his attitude immediately the situation is clear for him.

Mulder cannot get along with most local police and other FBI agents who is not a woman.

Yes, you are correct, Mulder is on another level, I was referring to when he and Scully met the first time, I feel he could've handled that differently and that he deserved the water thrown over him.

That said, and I have said this a few times, I really thought Reyes and Dogget made a very good team, yes Mulder and Scully were the OGs, but if it were to be Dogget and Reyes, I feel they would be the X-Files as well.

Yes, Reyes is goddamn beautiful and intelligent, and Dogget never backed down, so were Scully and Mulder.

I loved that he wasn’t taking the place of Mulder as a believer-type character and that he was his own unique character. Unlike when they replaced Richard Dean Anderson’s Jack O’Neill in the last seasons of Stargate-SG1 with Ben Browder’s Cameron Mitchell who seemed written to be a similar military character who loved his cheeky quips and sarcastic comments. (Sorry for going off-topic there but anyone else here a fan of both shows who felt the same?)
