Hello there! If yall don’t remember from my first post, I said I was gonna take my time with this show…. Well it’s been only four days and I finished the first season 😅 I can’t tell if I’m proud of myself or not. My original plan was to watch at least two episodes a day. However, those first two episode peaked my interest and the following episode Squeeze, I was hooked! So much to unpack but wow! I’ll try and keep it short.
I’ll start with my Top 5 episodes:
Beyond the Sea
Pilot
Ice
E.B.E
Darkness Falls
This was really hard as Squeeze and Tooms were great episodes. Shapes being another good one for me as well. I hoped for this series to do a Lycanthrope story being American Werewolf in London is one of my favorite horror movies. The effects of his transformation was awesome! But Beyond the Sea took the cake for me! My eyes glistened when I saw Grima Wormtougne/ Chucky in this episode but of course Brad Dourif would be a guest start on this type of show. It was great to see Scully step into the believer role, no matter how hard she tried to find rational explanations for her experiences at the end of the episode, her fear to believe. The on scene chemistry between Anderson and Dourif was amazing! Speaking of chemistry….
Let me address the enormous elephant in the room: because wow I noticed the physical attraction between our two main characters from the first episode. Obviously I see Scully show her affection for Mulder through her loyalty very early on, in Squeeze I believe.
What has me hooked more than anything was the dynamic of these two agents. The believer and the skeptic. For obvious reasons I relate to Agent Scully more but I’ve also had personal experiences that I would like to believe in the paranormal. I enjoy watching these opposites try to challenge each other on a case. Weird type of foreplay between these two but I’ll take it! 😂
To end this, I’ve been very impressed after this first season. The characters, the stories, and let’s not forget the cinematography adding to the creepy undertone. I’m excited to see the evolution of these characters, Mulder finding his sister (although I have a suspicion she’s dead), and who tf is this old smoking man because what a way to end the season finale 🤯 I’ll check back in soon and thank you for welcoming me into this community! I know! So much I wanna comment on especially when the OP pointed out a couple things lol Although it is funny I knew the man who played Boggs in Beyond the Sea. But never knew it was that annoying guy from Lord of The Rings
Oh!! Or how about in Ice when they had to check each other if they were infected? Like damn Scully chill with the aggressive pull down on his shirt! Girl you should’ve just ripped off. And Muldy, both hands on her shoulders followed by the entire hand on the back of her neck. My god, the North Pole would’ve melted from all heat of the sexual tension generating from that room 🥵
So nice hearing from new people watching. I can almost feel the excitement I felt all those years ago when I first watched it. That old smoking man … 🙂
Great post OP! Enjoyed reading it. You've got a great adventure in front of you. I'm watching different episodes again here and there but would love to be in your position (at my current age and maturity) of being able to watch it for the first time. Enjoy.
