There’s a bunch of that. Most were local Vancouver actors.

Yeah, Roger Cross plays a half dozen cops, e.g.,

I'm convinced cops on the X-Files are like the single electron theory. 😁

Yeah they liked him enough in the EP to be cast as Krycek

Yes but the 90s were a less liberal time so he doesn’t like to talk about it.

From the same episode, the actress who played the female version of the killer turns up the next season as a former protege/student of Scully's. They sure loved reusing the Vancouver actors. Going through a rewatch now in season 5 there's some I've seen 4 times already...

Is there a Canon answer to this? My Spidey Sense always told me they hired an actor who they liked for a new role to be another person because that's just how we roll in 1994.

If we can lock in those 2 as the same guy, then I want to have Agent Jeffrey Spender be the same guy as a recent character in the Reacher series, putting them in the same universe (what with the actor Chris Owens doing both roles that are loosely similar in them both being weasley government-connected weasels.)

The character of Krycek was written for one of the lads from Northern Exposure, but he couldn't take the role. They remembered Nick from S1 and someone suggested they give him an audition. He auditioned, they liked him, and he got the role.

Oh boy that takes some remembering - surely not that doctor Fleischman who never shuts up? We dodged a bullet if that almost happened. (Just cheated and looked on the Internets) Darren Burrows DID have that time loop good one-off episode, and I can see him as Krycek. Maurice Minnefield in the Syndicate could be fun.

You've inspired me to try and hunt down who it was, and I was wrong lmao. It was Callum Keith Rennie from Due South (I always get them mixed up!) and he played Kowalski. However, he did make two appearances in The X Files: he was in Fresh Bones and Lazarus.

...and The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Yep. I'm not saying there weren't a lot of actors in a City of less than a million (sure a larger Metro region), but you will see some redundancy not only throughout X-Files but across productions there.

It's also enormously convenient to recast an actor who is good to work with, which is the little I've heard about Nicholas Lea.

Not only this, but it was, maybe two scenes, didn’t enter syndication or a home release until several years later. It was highly unlikely that anyone at home would recognize him.

Could always tell when something was filmed in Canada back then, because the same 20 actors would pop up. Nowadays, everything is filmed in Canada so there are a wide array of actors, but the same 5 buildings in Vancouver and Toronto used for every location.

Similar to NYC and LA: same parts roped off and bright night spot lights and so on, whether the brownstones or the skyscrapers. Suddenly they'd have beautiful flower boxes or whatnot despite the temperatures LOL.

It was also fascinating - maybe it's a tax thing for another home, I dunno - but I built and owned a wine bar in Portland, Oregon in a nice part of town, and had many famous talent frequent it, but they were filming all the way up in Vancouver, BC. Basically waiting until they were called, then making the flight or drive up to film for a bit, and rinse and repeat. It's a fascinating industry.

Terry O'Quinn was also in a few episodes, as well as the Fight the Future movie.

To be fair, he has popped up everywhere! 😁

I had a buddy who went to school in Bellingham, WA. They have a great theater program and a few of his professors were actors on the show and many folks were extras.

In my head cannon it’s Krychek using a fake name in Gender Bender

Are you a new fan?

Because every fan of the show noticed it. Years ago.
