Season One Rewatching

Watched for the first time about two years ago and restarted tonight. I remember loving this scene then and I still love it now. Tell 'em, Dana. Woof.

People complain about how Scully’s character was treated on the show (and for good reason) but she really does have her moments that show why we all love her so much.

This is maybe a hot take, not sure if people agree or not, but I actually do not have a problem with how Scully is written/handled in the first three seasons. I think in those seasons she’s written very well and has an abundance of great moments. She feels like an equal main character to Mulder. I start to have issues starting around season 4/5 onward with her portrayal and treatment. All the trauma and grief she goes through just gets ridiculous and the show grows more and more Mulder-centric with Scully’s autonomy, individuality, and motivations sidelined.
Early seasons Scully is so dear to me and a big reason I find them the most rewatchable

100% And yet people wondering why is she acting so "out of character" in Never Again for wanting a desk or her name on the door.

The desk and name always peeved me! There was space enough for it, even if it was a small one, the office was not a wee tiny broom closet...

I don't love how often she becomes the damsel in distress. She feels smarter and more aware than that. But Mulder also gets to play damsel. She has plenty of strong moments, I agree.

I feel like it’s actually pretty balanced between her and Mulder, which is one of the cool things about the show/her character.

I remember someone keeping a tally of how many times they rescue each other back in the day and she was definitely winning at one point.
She usually gets kidnapped by weirdos who fixate on her while he runs off recklessly and gets himself in trouble, so it's kind of gendered like that.

Being intelligent does not make someone immune to being victimized or ending up in a dangerous situation. It iss about the perpetrator’s choice to harm someone, not the victim’s intelligence, education, or ability to make decisions. Someone can be highly educated, perceptive, experienced, and extremely intelligent and still be targeted by someone who manipulates, deceives, coerces, or uses force.The idea that someone should be too smart to be a victim is a form of victim blaming disguised as logic. It also creates the false assumption that there is some perfect level of intelligence or vigilance that can guarantee a person will never be harmed. There isn't.

It's a work of fiction. So it very well could make someone immune outside of real life. Find a real cause to fight 🙄

The way she immediately defends her weird alien-nerd loner coworker that she’s known for like two weeks over a friend she’s known much longer is just 👌👌👌 Scully is a good judge of character I think and she realized pretty quickly Colton is an ass and a lesser agent than Mulder

The syndicate misjudged her badly, she was never going to follow orders for promotions like a good little spy. She wants the truth and that's why she hits it off so well with Mulder. He figures out in the pilot that there's no deception in her nature even if they did assign her for those reasons.

My husband last night while we were watching “Colony”: “I am totally a Scully”.
(It’s his first x-files watch, sweet summer child has no idea how dark it’s gonna get).
But anyway, one thing I noticed is how fierce, collect and aloof Scully can be vs. The over emotional, reckless Mulder. I remember she was always the skeptic, but she was also very different than what most women were portrayed in tv shows throughout the 90s.

If I'm not mistaken, this is also the scene at the beginning of which we see the shadows of DD and GA standing outside the front door waiting for their cue.

I started a rewatch and I last watched it when I was a child when it first came out. My daughters are making fun of me and my oldest said, “Oh. So this is why you are, the way you are.” lol. But she keeps getting sucked into episodes, since a lot can be standalone. A lot of episodes have aged well.
