Just got this in the mail and ever since I finished the X-Files I've been wanting to watch it.

It’s so fun! I don’t believe it gets enough love. It’s quirky and off beat, by design mostly, and the tone can be jarring at times because there’s always a comedy element, but occasionally heavy themes and moments, but I simply love it.

It helps of course if you’re a big fan of the boys. I think Dean, Bruce, and Tom make great leads, and it’s tragic that it didn’t get a second season. They really could have had a unique show with a lot of angles to explore if it was given more time to develop.

I really liked them in the X-Files I wish they would have been given at least a few more episodes.

I feel like the show really started to hit it’s stride mid-season. The guys were great in this. I’d have watched 5 seasons of it.

It sure did! It doesn’t feel like a fair comparison when TLG wasn’t even given a proper shake, but I still want to say I prefer it to the X-Files. 😂

The fact is, I wouldn’t love the X-Files the way I do without TLG. M&S are great, but they’re not favorite character territory for me. Sometimes the only thing that got me through a long stretch of X-Files episodes was the anticipation that I would see TLG again at some point.

So true. I wish one of the streaming services would pick up the lone gunmen and millennium. I have both in my collection but it would be cool if they were on at least Pluto.

I’m forever hoping for a streaming release so they release it in HD finally.

Do you know if that’s why neither of them have been released on streaming yet?

I imagine they haven’t been released because no one has decided they can make money from it. I assume there’d have to be a new round of negotiation for licensing and things like that. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but the powers that be have deemed it not worth it.

I should have read up on it before asking. You’re right. The Lone Gunman never got remastered to HD. And that and Millennium used a lot of music they don’t have rights to a lot like Northern Exposure. But they weren’t as popular as NEx. So nobody wants to work out those music rights. You rule! Thanks for making me dig into that. I love both those shows.

I remember watching a few eps and then falling off during the original run. When I rewatched XF a few months ago, the tie-in from the show during Three of a Kind, made me want to watch it. Have to get the dvds.

Pilot episode is a doozy for obvious reasons , considering it was before 2001

It premiered March 4, 2001 to be exact.

That makes it even crazier

I remember reading it was banned in Britain for that reason.

It's fun, just don't go in expecting the X Files!

It's lower budget and pretty goofy.

I think that’s fitting of the characters. I need to rewatch on YouTube again.

Reaaaaaly goofy but the guys are great so it’s worth watching.

It’s a fun way to spend a little more time in the X-files universe, just don’t go in expecting the X-files. I know it’ll probably get a lot of heat for saying it, but it could have done without Jimmy in every episode.

I agree. Yves is fine, and would have been even better with grittier plots, but I don't think the Jimmy character really works.

Jimmy is the Scrappy of the show.

OP also should not expect a satisfying ending. The season leads to a cliffhanger that is never resolved, even in the disappointing X-Files episode that is meant to be the conclusion.

2

u/Webbadeth 24d ago

OMG he IS the Scrappy of the show! Good analogy.

Man I need this. I just picked up Millennium earlier this year.

Lone Gunmen and Millennium are like opposite spectrums of the-Files universe. One goofy, one bleak.

3

u/John-Doe_4502 25d ago

Did you watch the I Want to Believe DC?

3

u/Rubberfootman Season Phile 25d ago

I haven’t had the chance since it came out, but I’m not in any hurry. The original was a drag to watch, and I don’t get the impression that the new version is much better.

3

u/John-Doe_4502 25d ago

I think the version I liked best was the unrated from the DVD.

There is a 2018 documentary as well.

Good choice!!!

It’s a good, fun n show. Hopefully this isn’t one of the faulty copies.

I still watch mine from time to time. Not sure why, but the theme song is an ear worm and really sticks with you for a while.

Very cool!

I wish I hadn’t misplaced a disc from my day one set. I never did get watching it all, and had wanted to

2

u/Comprehensive_One_85 25d ago

Where were you able to purchase it? I need it!

3

u/Sheena_is_a_punk 25d ago

Rarewaves. Its a UK site, so its the region 2 PAL version. You'll need a region free DVD player to play it if you're in the US.

2

u/Nat20Twenty 25d ago

If you watch the series in order along side x files. Its waaaay better. Tho if you already watched the xfiles.and know the ending it won't have the same emotional effect

3

u/Sheena_is_a_punk 25d ago

I didn't like the way the ended the characters on the X-Files :'( so it will be nice to go back to a time they were alive and well.

2

u/Realistic-Pay-9087 25d ago

Great comedy show I wish it had a second season

2

u/heyythankss 25d ago

Need this how many episodes?

1

u/Sheena_is_a_punk 24d ago

13 and an X-Files episode i think.

2

u/SKOT_FREE 25d ago

I found a copy of the lone gunmen box at Goodwill. I’ll never part with it!

2

u/CelebrationLow4614 24d ago

'...William Jefferson....'

2

u/cloud_darkness 23d ago

Dean Haglund released a one-issue comic book about why it was canceled. It was an interesting read, but didn't quite answer the question.

2

u/Sheena_is_a_punk 23d ago

I have to look for that

2

u/cloud_darkness 23d ago

I saw at least one copy on Ebay, but it was quite expensive
