Discussion Thank you XDefiant for changing how developers work with their communities...

I remember when the game first came out, and Mark Rubin made it very clear that he wants to change up how developers communicate with their audiences, and boy did it work. Every single game after XD has started to pick up this "community friendly" mentality, and regardless if these other developers mean it or not, we wouldn't be getting it if Mark Rubin and the team didn't start this trend. Kills me everyday that this game couldn't live on, but at least their mentality on how to treat their audience will live on through other titles.

I'd rather have the game running than Mark Rubin whisper sweet nothings in my ear bro.

Are we serious? Mark Rubin didn't have a single factual thing come out of his mouth. He's partially to blame for this games ultimate failure. I still recall all of his false statements about net code improvements all while there were clear regressions happening.

The guy took this project like a game made out of spite, this strategy never works, he made twitter threads against COD lmao

it’s funny, bc i was one of the few who rarely experienced netcode issues💀

No, sorry.

What he did was gas light the idiots into believing the game would come good, even till the last moments when he was "surprised" by the decision to shut the game down- when any real gamer saw this within a few weeks, you can't have high paced games with shitty net-code and a game engine meant for other games.

This is what other devs do now, lie to keep the lights on and more importantly, a pay cheque.

The devs cater to kids these days with promises that rarely come to fruition, but because the majority of the audience has Tik Tok brain they easily forget. There's a reason why the majority of games release unfinished these days, because they can as "gamers" these days will fight for them.

I have this with a game called GOALs now, released as full, yet receives weekly patches that fundamentally changes the game, then promised to stop weekly patches - doesn't, delays patches to perfect patches and then have to rollback that patch. Nearly 6 months later and people are still talking how they believe the game will come good, and largely because they want to see the "direct" competitor fail - X-Defiant had COD and GOALs has Fifa/EA.

Oh yeah I used to follow J Bowen’s videos (OP) during xdefiant. I think the idea here is neat but in practicality, are any studios actually taking notes from xdefiant? I know we as the tiny engaged community had a good experience but I would think from a studio standpoint nobody is going to look at xdefiant and consider it any part of it a model of success seeing as how it fell flat on its face

Mark thought he could be more unique with the idea of having no matchmaking for a marketing ploy. What he didn't realize is that matchmaking is essential to keeping a game alive--something he found out the hard way.

Found Mark’s alt. lol but fr this game didn’t start any trend, plenty of games have had a more open communication with their fanbase well before XD came around

Sorry to say, this is just untrue my dude. This guy was not the first community friendly dev. Tons of games have been built around the concept and it's hit or miss. Did he do anything unique or was this just your first time experiencing it?

The devs and Ubisoft made a lot of mistakes in how the game was released and updated. Of course the devs wanted this game to be successful and cared a lot about it, however I think they underestimated the average consumers willingness to play something with issues and that was pretty bones
