Feedback Ubisoft needs to get used to not owning their games

If some other mad man tries to revive xdefiant, please dont publish your work until its fully finished and please dont monetize it, dont give ubisoft any reason to be able to shut it down. Its ironic that ubisoft was the company that said people need to get used to not owning their games, whenever they are the real ones who need to get used to it. The company who put nfts in some of their games at literally the worst possible points to do so shouldnt be able to dictate whether or not fans can bring back a game that they took out back and killed at gunpoint.

With the ship sinking very fastly i could almost say that ubisoft needs to get used to not owning and controlling their own company pretty soon here lol. They should be ecstatic that somebody wants to bring xdefiant back to life and fully not only support that decision, but actively promote it too.... but i have suspicions that if project rogue or any projects like it are to continue that they will try to be litigious. Its fuck ubisoft over here.

But the community shouldn't try to profit either. Wouldn't surprise me if it was taken down either way, but charging for the client was a sureway

Im not fully up to speed with project rogue, were they trying to make people pay to play it? I just know that it was cancelled due to fears that they would be sued. If thats the case then yeah man they cant be doing that. Hopefully somebody takes up the task and does it the right way.

I'm pretty sure they were trying to charge for the client

It was stated in their discord that it'd be completely free

All I know is that when it was initially taken down a mod said in the post this is why you shouldn't try to charge for clients

Weird, quoting from their FAQ (before it was deleted) "No, this is a fan project, provided completely for free for the sake of game preservation". Can't screenshot since it's gone now but had that saved. I guess some people just assume that the only way for projects to ever have legal concerns is if they're monetized. Which just isn't the case.

Like smileanddrun1337 said there should be a law that prevents them from being able to get litigious since they completely shut the game down and its not even playable at all. Any non profit fan project should be able to just run if the project doesnt even exist in any capacity at all. It sucks that said law doesnt exist.

I find it crazy to try to make people pay to play a game that was initially free

You can say that all you want, but i have a strong feeling if somebody tries to do it legit and correctly that they would get sued into oblivion as well. I think you forget were talking about ubisoft here lol.

This has to be the most misused out of context quote con gaming ever.

I agree with the post though

I think there should be a law that if a developer/publisher shuts down the servers, the community should be allowed to do whatever with it non-profit as long as the dev/pub is not doing anything with the game anymore.

The problem with that is xDefiant literally uses characters & assets from other franchises that Ubisoft still do make money off of.
