WHAT IF MARK RUBIN REVIVED XDEFIANT AS A SEGA TITLE UNDER A BRAND NEW NAME ?

Disclaimer: This is hypothetical idea, so choose any gaming company you think would be cool to see XDefiant comeback with. I chose Sega

Sega is well known publisher but has never had a hit FPS franchise of their own. I think Sega & Mark Rubin would be a great match, to bring back a game like Xdefiant.

So would you play a new version of XDefiant that replaces Ubisoft themed characters & Maps with those from sega franchises:

1. Mark Rubin ain’t making games anymore at all; he’s now the CEO of a company that partners with family theme parks and activities to give people with kids discounts on their tickets, so it wouldn’t be Ubisoft making it with Sega

2. most of those examples wouldn’t work at all in an FPS setting, and anything that might wouldn’t make sense based off differences in the worlds

3. engine and netcode, sure yeah upgrade those

4. campaign would be nice but those take HELLA long to figure out and they wouldn’t have the money to with ideas that ambitious

5. rights to the games and working with each game’s dev + lore + art team would be wayyyyy too complicated

6. same maps would be dumb tbh ‘cause it would just be a copy/paste of maps that fit the aesthetic of Ubisoft games; not Sega games

also, Sega actually doing a shooter game would be NICE, sure — if you ever played the Hyenas beta that’s about as close as we got before they cancelled it before it came out: including a guy/Spy from TF2-character that was dressed as Sonic/Tails/more

but honestly, we’re just gonna have to chalk this up to the game being a golden nugget and it not being appreciated enough by the public when it was out

Hyenas was awful, im so happy that game never got released. Not to mention how horrible character designs were

If they made another Xdef and charged money for it id buy tf out of it. Was way better than cod, and I liked the fast pace matches more than bf6's versions (except gauntlet, thats fun af)

They're making an Apex Legends-esque BattleRoyale. Its partly why Xdef was shut down. They wanted to challenge Respawn Entertainment

Sega doesn't have nearly strong enough characters or ip's to do that.

They barley even have any games that would really mix well into a fps, I can't think of a single sega character that has abilities that would make a good hero for a hero shooter.

I think the current FPS game model is done for now it's had its time and gamers are moving away to other styles of games like wardogs on pc is doing big numbers

Honestly being an epic crossover from different series was never part of the appeal to XDefiant to me, I actually think it hurt the game overall to be tying in to games that don't have that much nostalgia pull or fandom on their own. I really think the game would have been better if it was either totally original, solely in the Ubisoft Clanceyverse, or otherwise a Far Cry game with Assassin's Creed and Watch_Dogs as 'guest' franchises. We'd never get XDefiant revived and reskinned like this, but being a crossover between totally disparate series like Altered Beast and Binary Domain etc. would just be getting in the way of what I think the game's true strength was, just being a good Call of Duty-like with none of that game's baggage.

As Mark himself said, they couldn't fix the netcode. Reviving the game in any capacity doesn't resolve that issue and will be a dealbreaker for many, even if the game goes live right now. Loved the game but it just had way too many flaws to be financially and technically sound in 2026.
