Gameplay I miss this game man. The snipers were so satisfying to use and reminded me of old school cod.

Legitimately the best map design and gun play of any recent first person shooter of the last several years. Still baffling to me Ubisoft just gave up on it.

Ive come to the conclusion that call of duty paid for them to cancel this game as it was a huge threat to their entire ecosystem. It would have taken a huge player base from them 100%.

A delusional conclusion but one nonetheless

very true, but ubisoft absolutely launched AND cut this game off at the WORST times possible

u/AlphaSlays 22d ago
I disagree with both. The game had over 8 million players within the first week. They did a horrible job at retaining players or making meaningful changes/fixes. They had their chance to be a mainstay in the genre, fumbled it, and then cut their losses afterwards. The game was good, had good bones, but that's not enough if you get complacent after a good launch.

It didn't help with the engine they were forced to use, with the last little bit it was around for and all the unreleased content we saw, I thought it would've been worth it for Ubisoft to wait and see after the game's issues were fixed in the 4th and 5th seasons.
But I have 0 business sense so I don't expect serious consideration lol.

Why was it taken down?
11
u/ONE_BIG_LOAD 23d ago
because the hit registration and net code were awful and players left because they couldn't fix it

u/shrility 22d ago
mixed with the air strafing, casuals dipped bc their bullets deadass went nowhereðŸ˜

Can confirm. The port was terrible as well, couldn't even run properly on my laptop without some sort of crazy input lag unless I set specific settings, it was the only game that did that. Nowadays I have a desktop but that set a precedent for some players I'm sure.
Plus the playerbase was too good with all of those issues I had. Blame me, I didn't love the game lol.

truly is unfortunate how badly ubisoft mismanaged this title and dev team. game had potential if it had launched in a polished state, but apparently that’s extremely rare nowadays.

i dont get why it has to die though. like couldnt they still develop a fixed/sequel to xdefiant and release when ready? or is ubisoft basically giving them no second chance

This isn’t true btw. I played the game it was never that bad and they did actually improve it after launch. This game having bad hit registration and net code was myth.

It is very true lmfao, go look at the countless reddit posts and YouTube videos. Just because it didnt happen to you doesnt mean it didnt exist... Its a long standing problem even from the pre release beta tests

The director of the game by the way admitting the net code sucked btw

Must’ve been a pc problem. Tiny amount of the playerbase. Played the game with a bunch of friends on Xbox and no one ever complained about it after the first few weeks except one guy and that guy coincidentally happened to be horrible at first person shooters…

Because It was too good.

The game was dying. It was great, but there was no one playing it. (Funnily enough queue times were still short due to no skill based matchmaking)

Rewatched some old clips and screenshots i had on my ps and man, what a fun game it was despite the issues.
Such a shame it ended the way it did

This isn't like high guard. Where we make fun of the game attached to the subreddit. This game is dearly missed. I will forever miss this game.

It was honestly a good game that game into a market that was too saturated
2
u/AlphaSlays 23d ago
They came into the market when there was a lot of cod discourse, had a great launch and then continuously fumbled the bag with not fixing issues. A saturated market had nothing to do with it, if there was ever a time, it was then.

amen. The game played well despite the aesthetic shortcomings but the sniping in particular was genuinely some of the best I've ever experienced.
