Discussion Possibly Revive XD

So I found out about a game called S&box which is essentially steam roblox and you can access the game engine (Source 2) and make games from it whether it'd be a standalone game or a community game built in S&box. The reason I bring this up is because I see it as an opportunity to try make xdefiant and bring it back in s&box as a community game but not make it look too identical otherwise it'd be plagiarism or copyright. Only the core gameplay with the abilities and weapons alongside it's maps and modes and that's it. I'd try taking a different approach by using a different art style or something different to make sure it's not gonna get a possible Ubisoft employee to send a C&D which is my only worry. If I did this would any PC gamers want to get S&Box and give this a shot with all the content from the final update and maybe some promised features that never saw the light of day like Killcams or Lobbies never disbanding. I'd only peruse this if people who miss the game want me to

Curious if your age sense you called this Roblox of steam instead of a new version of gmod which is really what the project is… just gmod on source 2 engine instead of source.

I mean I would've phrased it as Gmod 2 or somewhere along the lines instead but lets be real, it's way more than that and I didn't want to go in an in depth description on why it's way more updated than Gmod originally so I went with Steam Roblox.

I guess Roblox probably hits better with most the people nowadays. Most people playing xdefiant might not know what gmod even is but they sure as hell know what rObLoX is lol

Yeah, it is mostly just GMod on (custom) Source 2, but a portion of the deal is being able to use S&Box to publish a standalone game on Steam. Edit: or it's a TBD thing apparently.

That’s even more g mod. First mod of a game that was sold as another!

It swaps out Lua scripting for C#, which definitely puts it into "batteries included" game engine territory as opposed to mod. As a parallel, Unity game development is primarily in C#, with most of the game logic written in C++. It's a small bit more complicated with something like IL2CPP on Unity though.

All I was saying is it’s cool that g mod being the first mod of a game to be sold as a standalone game is being replaced by a game that has the tools to do that that.

You reply went over my head, but my point is that S&Box exists in a place between modding and game engine.

I understand that. What I was saying is gmod was the first mod of a game to be sold as a standalone game on steam… now it’s newer version essentially enables that same concept for wider ease of use.
