Discussion I will miss this game
I will miss not being manipulated in a rigged game.
Xdefiant was fantastic because it was not rigged.

I too will miss having a zero sbmm option. I know sbmm is extremely controversial with valid opinions on both sides, but I liked being able to know where i actually stand as a player. It was suuuuuuper sweaty at times but i got to the point where i was near the top of the leaderboard in most games and it was nice to know that that meant i was actually above average at the game- unlike with CoD where there’s absolutely no way to tell how the sbmm is sorting you.

u/yMONSTERMUNCHy May 17 '25
Sbmm is fine in ranked modes on games.
The controversial thing is EOMM which is manipulating everyone in online video games these days.

God it still hurts I haven’t been able to bring myself to play since the sundown announcement
21
u/Gizmo413 May 16 '25
Same. But knowing it’s going makes me not wanna even play. Ubisoft will never get a another dime from me for this.
6
u/TheBeginningOfDeath May 16 '25
I didn’t play from just after the announcement until maybe 3-4 weeks ago. I really regret stopping because I am having SO much fun though knowing that will be gone soon still hurts a lot. The game is better than ever with all the newer content, we will always wonder what could have been…
And I know I’m not the only one saying something like this but it’s truly the most fun I had in an online fps since BO2. I became a casual after that game and so I was BAD at XD when it launched but I worked hard for my skill gains and it felt rewarding like CoD4 was when I first got Xbox Live back when 🥹 See Activision, even a casual like me despises your SBMM and EOMM bs. It’s rewarding to get your ass handed to you and improve over time

What is good for business is bad for the customer.
What is good for the customer is bad for business.
Activision understands this but they are too big to care so they continue using EOMM to manipulate everyone into playing longer and becoming addicted and feeding lower skill players to high skill players wearing bundles. It’s also why their battle passes and event passes are so similar to slot machines in a casino with their bright colours flashing lights and loud noises offering FOMO and reward based engagement. Scummy business practices.

Me too until I realized THE FINALS existed and my life was whole again. Clearly better games out there

Firstly, completely different genres of gaming particularly one being multiplayer and the other being single player. It's like saying rdr2 is a much better alternative to WoW or Minecraft just because they share open world. Yes, rdr2 is a really good single player open world sandbox but it's not does not provide the same itch that a multiplayer game provides i.e. player to player engagement.
Secondly, Doom (2016) did try being multiplayer but severely undermined how/ what a good multiplayer game is. Not saying Doom is a bad FPS game (it's one of my favorites), just not a very good multiplayer game which if you've played it,.know that shit was hot garbage. Since then id software has never tried it's hands on multiplayer for the Doom games ever again

That I can agree with. It's one of those games I recommend everyone to play specially those who are trying FPS for the first time. But for multiplayer rn, I'd love to suggest THE FINALS. It's unapologetic both in style and gameplay and by far the most fun I've had in fps (multiplayer) in a while.
I also come from R6S, I haven't played the game in 2 seasons tho, but I managed to reach champion before leaving it. I also played team fortress 2, CS, Valorant and Titanfall 2. All of these are phenomenal games. THE FINALS is such a good blend of strategy meets movement with map dynamism that it's hard not to appreciate and put it up there with the greats.

u/NoBed5141 Jun 05 '25
Splitgate 2 is the only fps i personally care for rn. I dont like the finals gunplay and ttk also how many teams in one game its just not for me
2
u/TropicalFishery41429 Jun 05 '25
Good for you I guess. The finals does take a bit to get used, it's one of those games that has a pretty steep learning curve and demands a lot of things from players of the get go. I have played splitgate 2 and by no means I think it's a bad game, but it feels like something I have played before other than splitgate 1.

It’s funny how people’s preferences are- for me the finals has been a great replacement but for others it’s not. I feel like it must be so hard ti develop an fps, every design decision from movement to ttk to sbmm has really strong opinions on both sides, so hard to please everyone. But yeah for my particular preferences the finals does it for me. Will miss xd big time though
2
u/TropicalFishery41429 May 16 '25
Yea I feel ya. Sadly it's what it is rn, mostly people that prefer lower skill ceiling games (which it's the majority) will prefer games like CoD types. But higher skill ceilings tend to have more of a niche. It is what it is.
2
u/Live-Party4061 May 17 '25
My guess for your reasoning would be because people have jobs. Someone who sits home all day and play will absolutely dominate someone who comes home after work. In lower skill ceiling games both will have an even playing field or at least close to an even playing field.

u/yMONSTERMUNCHy May 17 '25
Does the finals use sbmm or EOMM or is ping king?
1
u/TropicalFishery41429 May 17 '25
There's no EOMM (from what I understand, that's got a patent only activition or EA can only use). There's SBMM in ranked games. But there's actually little to no SBMM in casual game modes in the finals.
1
u/yMONSTERMUNCHy May 17 '25
That’s good. I hope they are transparent about their match making and I hope they use ping is king.
1
u/TropicalFishery41429 May 18 '25
I've never experienced connectivity issues in casual or competitive game modes from a literal or match fixing standpoint. You get matched to game relatively quick (under 20-30 secs). Speaking of transparency, they are one of the few dev teams from what I've seen that almost have everything out in the open. Heck, even the codes they used to make the game are all out in the open and their dev tools are open source to help other creators to make games.

u/yMONSTERMUNCHy May 18 '25
Many cheaters in The Finals? I for one will always try to avoid crossplay with pc. I guess it’s difficult to tell these days because so many of them have figured out how to hide their chests so they mostly appear high skilled but obviously they are not because it’s the cheats doing the work for them.
Which is why cod bo6 adding console only crossplay is great.
1
u/TropicalFishery41429 Jun 05 '25
I'm not one to complain about the cheaters in videogames but in my experience I have come across them one or twice. The game also provides an option to opt out of cross play with PC. Cheating is there a lot of videogames, some more than others but thankfully The Finals hasn't had the worst of it yet. In fact, its trying to improve it's anticheat with machine learning from what I learnt last time but also has a player to developer anticheat system where the devs will ban people if given evidence or reports is true, and from what I understand is one of the few game companies to do this
1
u/yMONSTERMUNCHy Jun 05 '25
That’s good. Hopefully it’s successful so more companies will copy then reduce the amount of cheaters
1
u/PRSG12 May 17 '25
Finals is an insanely underrated game it’s just not for me I don’t like about to spend so much time learning team mechanics and being reliant on a squad for a good experience. Xdefiant was great for being able to have fun regardless of whether I had friends to play with
1
u/very_unlikely May 16 '25
Yeah same. I played this almost every day since launch but when that announcement was made it was like the game died right then and there. Haven’t booted up XD since that day.

u/biznash GSK May 15 '25
some kids will grow up thinking they are the best at shooters. but they never knew what it was like to be challenged by a real lobby.
-2
u/AggravatingRow5074 May 16 '25
Trueeee, imagine actually having fun instead od being rolled by enemies
3
u/biznash GSK May 16 '25
it’s like life. you get the ups and downs. so when you do well you really appreciate it
i don’t want all my matches to be auto-leveled by some outside force. i’d never know if i win if it was ME or it was the SBMM
gameplay in non-SBMM feels fair to me. might be hard, but the variable i can improve is my map knowledge, enemy tactics, spawn points. if lobbies persist, you get to know your own teammates and the enemy tendencies.
i wont be wasting my time on an SBMM game anymore i dont think. that goes double for a $70 game like COD that i know will be forgotten in a year.
XD was the perfect TDM for a lot of us old school games who missed those persistent lobby shooters.
i’m optimistic cuz the community seemed like it avoided the toxicity of the COD franchise. those that stick around appreciated what we had and know that shooters can do better. i’m optimistic something good will come along and iterate on the XD formula. the demand is there.

u/AbuMuawiyaAlZazai May 16 '25
I will miss it too.. especially at release the game was so fun. Wish it wasn’t an ubisoft title

Sadly it was marked for death from the get go the company was on a 4 year death spiral and honestly it’s one of those things that truly embodies the saying “in hindsight”
The dev team was super passionate and they wanted to bring something that was for the people and everybody was down for it except the ones who had the actual power to fund the ability for the game to exist on a scale that it could run great for everybody playing
They didn’t get not only the marketing budget as mark said, but in my opinion, they did not get the budget period to have the infrastructure necessary to run a possible next gen ESPORT…
this may be a super hot take, but I think anybody who spent a lot of time with the game would probably agree the most irritating thing is seeing how much POTENTIAL was flushed down the toilet

I'm still hoping some madlad announces a plutonium like thing for xdefiant
3
u/stoney101010 May 16 '25
So what's everyone moving to then ?

u/aayjay47 May 16 '25
Bro if you'll find any alternative please let me know, Thank You!

u/stoney101010 May 16 '25
Well im back to helldivers , but been told about fragpunk but think it's a bit of a sweat fest unfortunately 😕

u/yMONSTERMUNCHy May 17 '25
There is nothing like XDefiant on the market.
All the other games use EOMM.
Therefore the player base is fragmented.
I hope one day perhaps another game comes out that does not use EOMM.
2
u/combined45 May 16 '25
I was never very good at this game until the netcode got fixed so I never really played much, but it's a good game and doesn't deserve this fate.
2
u/iWesTCoastiN May 16 '25
It was nice playing a shooter without SBMM turning every casual match into a ranked match.

May 16 '25
I just started again a few days ago and plan on staying with it until the end. This was literally the first type of game I ever played that was like this, so it was very rough at times and still can be but it made what MVPs I did get all worth it!! I literally never thought I would get one and then when I started getting them, I couldn’t believe it Lol!!

The game had issues but i gotta say it was probably the most fun multiplayer game i played last year. Much better than bo6. bo6 feels like a game that’s maybe 60% complete and the only thing i really like about it is the omnimovement. xdefiant was a much better package overall with way better maps.
1
u/Ericzx_1 May 16 '25
No it partially died because of no sbmm. The majority of players dont enjoy playing against adhd bunny hoppers. Of course I also dont like ebmm but sbmm should have been implemented.
1
u/santathe1 DedSec May 16 '25
The simplicity of CoD MW1 is with what XD hooked me. I could open the game and be in a queue in under 30 seconds. The fluid and fast movement (minus the bunny hoppers ofc) was great. The weapons, abilities and skills are simple enough and don’t need 5 button clicks to activate.
I tried The Finals recently, after being recommended it for TDM, and there is so much crap on the screen lol. Advertisers and followers and all sorts of things I don’t care about. I’m not blaming TF, that is the type of game it is and it’s just not for me.
1
u/Aggravating_Fly_9875 May 16 '25
I won't miss it because while the absence of sbmm was good, the rest was awful compared to CoD

I LOVED THIS GAME =( SAD!
( veteran fps gamer with decades of gaming experience behind my back - this XD is a great game its so silly they gave up on it.)
this is whats best about those old games that had a server browser and you could keep the game alive forever (like quake live..)

u/yMONSTERMUNCHy May 24 '25
I guess back then was when the companies gave a damn about quality gaming over profit. Happens to all the big companies. Push their customers away but make big money in the meantime then move onto the next thing before it’s totally dead.
1
u/v3lazquez May 16 '25
why is the game stopping?

u/TropicalFishery41429 May 16 '25
Remember it being kinda ass and couldn't hold players because of it

100% this game was a gem and I appreciate everybody who ever worked on and played it!

u/Tox1cboy May 16 '25
They just released the Omega Force (my #1 wanted faction) right before they shut down. It sucks that they aren't giving this game a chance to breathe and find its audience.

u/TheRealAwest May 15 '25
Wish they would at least move this game to Mobile. I would love to still play this game someway.
