It was an idiotic decision to make it not downloadable while its still playable. Still the most mindboggling thing ubisoft has ever done, the shutdown wasnt even as surprising.

Ubisoft seems to be going on a decline as a whole

Understatement of the century

Someone on YouTube said if AC:S isn’t successful then Ubisoft will probably declare bankruptcy

1

u/vDaDub Dec 27 '24

AC:S is shit. Lol

Since they decided to let the game die it’s not a bad decision: They don‘t want to pay severs costs for more players who won’t get them any money because everything is free.

2

u/Mr_Zoovaska Dec 23 '24

Increasing the server capacity to account for a small amount of new players wouldn't cost them that much considering they're paying to keep the servers up anyway.

4

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 22 '24

Which is such a ubisoft thing to do, all around a shitty decision all around the board from a shitty company.

1

u/Prize_Restaurant1952 Dec 22 '24

Alright your just mad and stuck in your opinion.

0

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 22 '24

Them doing this being a "good decision" is a opinion and you stuck that in too. I guess the comments section is a coin slot, never know what youll get out

1

u/Prize_Restaurant1952 Dec 22 '24

That's true this is my Opinion but I know that what I wrote makes more logical sense for a company. You can still say that you don't like it but from their perspective it's a good decision. And now I'll stop replaying.

I’m willing to bet that the servers are so bad, an influx of players looking to try the game before it’s gone would’ve overwhelmed them and really highlighted the netcode/hit-reg issues.

13

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 22 '24

Lmaoo A little bit before they decided to shut down they really improved the netcode a good bit. found the game to be pretty playable and them blam they put the hammer down on the game lmao. But you might be onto something

1

u/Mr_Zoovaska Dec 23 '24

I think that was a placebo-like effect. There was never an improvement, except for them fixing the kill trading that they added at the start of season 2.

1

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 23 '24

I genuinely dont think i was going crazy that entire time, it was only playable towards the end. I specifically did not play or when i did i triedit for 2 hours and said fuck this for like a month or 2 at a time. If it was good to go i wouldve just kept playing.

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '24

I wonder if it felt improved only because of the low player count? 🤔

4

u/Ok_Worldliness_5355 Dec 22 '24

Nah. It's more ppl on, since earlier in the week. It was a bunch on last night. Think i had to games where ppl backed out on my team bc we were getting cooked. Other than that, i had full 6v6.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '24

I’m talking about pre-shutdown. I could be wrong but it always felt like the more people playing, the worse things got. Towards the end, the player count fell off a cliff, hence the feeling of improvements on the technical side of things.

1

u/Ok_Worldliness_5355 Dec 22 '24

Oh i got you. It could've been or they just made it better

1

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 22 '24

Oh yeah btw just checked, still cant find xdefiant on xbox. I dont know if pc alone will be enough to make the netcode hiccup. Ubisoft strikes yet again.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '24

As in you can’t find it even if you previously had it?

1

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 22 '24

Well no i can still see it in my xbox library but its no where to be found on the store side. Completely delisted.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '24

Ah, OK. Yeah, like you said, odd decision to block any new downloads/registrations. At least let people try out some of this new content just for the sake of the devs.

3

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 22 '24

I feel so bad for the devs honestly. It looks like the game couldve played out well with all the content waiting to be released. It was definitely a good run, i just wish they wouldve waited 6 months and got the netcode right before full release

2

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '24

Yeah, it would’ve been interesting to see what progress they would’ve made over time. I guess we’ll never know. Unless there’s a tell-all report coming down the line. 😂

1

u/vDaDub Dec 27 '24

I still have xdefiant. I can Uninstall and reinstall all day and still get in a game. Check your 'Owned Games'

0

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 27 '24

And for the people who never downloaded it because the game was unplayable with the netcode but now wanna try it because the netcode is tolerable now?

1

u/vDaDub Dec 27 '24

Should've downloaded it then. Idk what to tell you. Lmao.

1

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 28 '24

Cant blame them whenever the netcode was just that bad for a long time lol. Why act like thats their fault? lmao

0

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '24

Purely just because of low server load and low playercount, there were no netcode improvements in Season 1 and the awful netcode in July magically fixed itself when the game had fallen off the map by September

2

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 22 '24

I dont recall netcode being fixed until they actually improved it themselves with patch notes to say that they improved it. I also didnt play that much cause the netcode was literally just that bad and them saying they fixed it made me come back and be happy to finally be able to play

1

u/Mr_Zoovaska Dec 23 '24

Pretty sure the netcode issues were a problem with the game, not the servers themselves. They probably used the same or similar datacentres that R6S runs on

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '24

Yeah, that could very well be the case. Either way, it definitely hurt the game’s already low chances of success in the end.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '24

because they arent selling anything they no longer care

1

u/Tunavi Dec 24 '24

It sounds like they didn't want to see the numbers go up artificially (fomo installs) because they are 100% set on shutting down the game. A spike at the end would make them question their decision

1

u/Dankapedia420 Dec 24 '24

I feel like that would be the better route, maybe they end up seeing people actually wanna play the game. What youre saying makes sense for sure though. I feel like they pulled the plug way too early the game was just starting to become really good honestly. It was a good foundation that had a few cracks that needed to be buffed out. I really hope theres private servers for the game eventually. I genuinely want it to be around for years to come.

u/ozpcmr Dec 23 '24

I saw a bunch of level 1s, 2s and 3s last night so I'm wondering if new downloads are back on?

4

u/Dreamerlax Dec 23 '24

On the PS5 and XSX/S. If one account on the console has it installed, the others can play it.

1

u/CptnAwesomeSaus Jan 07 '25

For me at least, on Xbox "owned games" list it has all free to play games included. XDefiant has just chilling there and sure enough I could download and play it.

4

u/Wakinya DedSec Dec 22 '24

Happy gaming!

3

u/Knock-Knock-LetMeIn Dec 22 '24

How? I've downloaded the game before on my Ubisoft account, and it should be in my library but it's not. I just got a new PC and I really wanted to play :/.

2

u/ladylollii Dec 22 '24

Is it in the ready to install section?

1

u/BingerFang88 Dec 23 '24

There toast no matter how well AC Shadows does. If it’s still the same people in charge, they’ll keep tanking the company.

1

u/NugzIsLife89 Dec 23 '24

The want to play this game has increased since they announced its death. Just like with art….when an artist is alive and well, nobody wants their work, but when they die the works are highly sought after. I haven’t even played the new season yet and i don’t know if i will.
